2011 NBA Draft Open Thread

UPDATE: Scroll down.  Even more signs are pointing to Jan Vesely.

UPDATE 2: Via SB Nation D.C., the Wizards have also invited the Turkish embassy and someone from the San Diego State alumni association, so hold the phone on Jan.

Well, it's draft night, sports fans!  The curtain goes up at 7 PM ET and I expect you all to be there, drink in hand.  While we're all vetting rumors with the desperation of young, single males looking for lifeboats on the Titanic, leave your mean drunk at home.  However it plays out, it's all about to be over!

Mike and Sean have journeyed barefoot over hundreds of miles of broken landscape to the great state of New Jersey for draft coverage (Mike from the press box, Sean from the stands).  Follow their up-to-the-minute reporting from Newark on Twitter at @MikePradaSBN and @McCarrick.  Not to be outdone; Jake (@jakewhitacre), Rook and I will be playing host in tonight's draft thread.  Saddle up!

Notables:

  • Each team has five minutes to make their selection.
  • Our draft selection likely hinges on what happens at the No. 2 and No. 3, but please remember the nature of draft day transactions.  All first round trades are announced after the first round has concluded.
  • There has been a surfeit of thoughtful analysis and emotional conviction on the site lately.  Makes me very proud to be a part of this community.  It is natural to want to vent spleen, but do it once only!  No personal attacks!  If anyone brings out the flamethrower, Daddy will bring out the banhammer.
  • The NBA has invited Kyrie Irving, Derrick Williams, Enes Kanter, Jonas Valanciunas, Jan Vesely, Brandon Knight, Kemba Walker, Kawhi Leonard, Tristan Thompson, Alec Burks, Klay Thompson, Marcus and Markieff Morris, Chris Singleton, Donatas Motiejunas, Bismack Biyombo and the Jimmer to the Green Room.  This is who the NBA considers surefire first round picks, and pretty much everyone with their own mock would agree.  There used to be more, but Darrell Arthur's late-breaking kidney issue made for the kind of scene that NBA would rather forget.

Happy posting!

Note, by Mike: After we post about the first pick, I'll probably throw up a second draft thread in a FanShot and stick it to the top, like we did during the day.
