Josh Howard enters this season in a really odd spot. It's uncommon for a player to sign a one-year contract with a new CBA looming. It's uncommon for a team to commit any guaranteed money to a player that has to recover from knee surgery. It's uncommon for a 30-year old to be placed in a mix with a bunch of young players and an owner preaching a long-term rebuilding strategy. It's uncommon for a player to be facing a key contract year with a knee injury in his immediate past. It's uncommon for any team to count on a player like that for leadership, and it's uncommon for that player to declare himself a leader himself.
So ... yeah, Howard's in an odd spot, to say the least. The Wizards figure he's good enough and cheap enough to take the risk to keep, so they kept him this summer even though they knew he wouldn't be ready to play right away. Now, thanks to some hard rehab, Howard is closer to returning to the court than one would think. Those additional oddities will come into play sooner than you think
Here's your chance to predict how well Howard will perform this season. As always, predict as many or as few categories as you'd like.
