- The big news today is of course Shawn Marion requesting a trade after months of rumors about him being traded and Phoenix being unwilling to sign him to an extension (not to mention the whole alpha-dog battle he's been waging with Amare). It doesn't look like it will have much of an effect for the Wizards though, as the top 2 suitors for Marion, the Lakers and the Jazz (who were rumored to be considering a Marion for Kirilenko swap) are both out west. Obviously, Warriors fans would like Marion too, but they want everyone.
- You might remember last week's discussion about the Wizards' defense, which included a great response from Kevin Broom of The Secret Weapon. Yesterday he expanded on his thoughts from that thread, I highly recommend checking it out.
- The Heat signed Brian Chase to a two year deal, Chase as you may remember was on the Wizards' summer league team. Chase drew Miami's attention after Shaq saw him play in a Barry Farms summer league game (kind of like this one) and convinced management to give him a look.

CBS Sportsline pegs Antawn Jamison as the 9th best power forward in the league, right between Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom. Jamison held the same spot in the rankings last season. Caron Butler was ranked 6th among small forwards, up from 13th last year. Not surprisingly, neither of Washington's centers cracked the top 20 for their position.
