Stevenson Update

From everything that I've read and heard about the shooting at DeShawn's house, it appears that he was sleeping inside when the shooting at his house occured so it doesn't look like he'll be in any sort of trouble.  The blogosphere was abuzz with the story yesterday and I could link to any of a vast number of sites with writeups on the situation but I think I'll just link to story in the Post, since it's probably the most up to date and is probably the most reliable source (which isn't to say that everyone else that's talking about it is unreliable, because I'm not).

Here's the basic gist of the story:

The injured man was identified as Curtis Ruff, who was treated at Health Central Hospital. Ruff engaged in an argument with two men and at least one woman while standing outside Stevenson's home, which is located in a gated community, the report said.

According to the report, former Orlando Magic player Brandon Hunter and a Stevenson acquaintance identified as Ronnie Millsap were returning from a night out and were being followed by a group of women they had invited to Stevenson's home when a man later identified as Ruff followed their vehicles into the housing community.

When the cars stopped in front of Stevenson's home, the man identified as Ruff began arguing with one of the women and pulled out a handgun and began firing, striking two cars and the side of the house, according to the report.

Hunter and Millsap told police that they did not return fire but Ruff, who has an extensive criminal record, according to authorities, later drove himself to the hospital where he was a treated for a bullet wound to the leg.

Stevenson was asleep inside the home and told authorities that he did not hear or see anything until Hunter and Millsap ran inside and told him to get down, according to the report.

Ruff did not cooperate with authorities, and Stevenson, Hunter and Millsap said they did not wish to press charges, according to the report. Detectives said no arrests were imminent.

"There was some sort of a dispute or argument," Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jim Solomons said. "We know shots were fired because there's bullet holes, there's blood on a car, we've got at least two vehicles shot up as well as bullet holes in the house. Something happened here, but nobody is really willing to tell us exactly what happened."

So it looks like we'll never truly know what happened here, if no one presses charges and no one says anything than it's kind of hard to get an idea of what really went down.  Let's just hope that Ruff just got into a rage, sprayed bullets everywhere and then in his rage shot himself in the leg and that no one else returned fire or otherwise got involved.

With all that said, here's a couple of quick, unrelated links:

  • Near the end of this FreeDarko post, Shoals talks about the role that Antawn Jamison fills on the Wizards.  It's a very interesting take, but I can't say that I disagree (then again, I can't say that I agree either, I'm still wrestling over it in my head).
  • Bullets Forever finally gets a ding on Blog Show.  When I first saw it yesterday, I was in a library so I couldn't listen to the audio.  I thought BF been nominated as Dan's artisanal cheese of the week, but sadly it hadn't.  Instead, it was a tribute to Mr. Intern/Bobblehead organizer/One-liner for helping out at the Blog Show.  So make sure to check out the show, make sure to check out those bangin' t-shirts too!
