On Thursday, I blogged about how Tommy Sheppard, the Wizards' vice president of basketball operations (essentially Ernie Grunfeld's assistant) was a candidate for the open Seattle general manager position.
According to Marc Spears of the Denver Post, Sheppard still has a "solid chance" of getting the job. I'm not all that sure what that means, but I was under the impression that he merely had an outside chance.
Of course, this might not actually be the case. Jerry Brewer of the Seattle Times has a column on Seattle's GM search, and he didn't mention Sheppard's name once. That's a good sign, I guess.
On a different note, Spears' article also has this nugget on Colorado State center Jason Smith.
The 7-foot, 240-pounder is scheduled to work out Tuesday in Orlando for several teams, including Boston, Houston, Washington and Chicago. Arvada native Nick Fazekas also will be at the Tuesday workout.
Many mock drafts have the Wizards taking Smith. I'll have a extended profile of him up later today.
This is probably a good time to mention that DC Pro Sports Report is rounding up every mock draft they can find. I invite anyone to write their own in the diaries and send it to Spence, whose e-mail can be found here.
Somehow, we went from talking about Tommy Sheppard to discussing the draft. How's that for transitioning?
