The new Arenas Adidas commercial

Got an e-mail today from blog buddy Ryan, who runs the fantastic Hoops Addict website.

Hey Mike!

I was watching the Raptors/Knicks game tonight and Adidas.ca is running a really cool Arenas commerical where he draws a cartoon of himself and it comes to life. Are they showing this commercial in DC yet or is this just something the Canadian versoin of Adidas is running?

I can't really speak for DC directly right now, but I did see the commercial on ESPN, so I'm assuming it's in DC too.

In case you haven't seen it, here it is.

MJD from the Fanhouse also saw it, and had this to say.

Maybe it's just me being soft, but these just make me feel good. Everything is perfect ... the music, the colors, the athletes tone of voice, the cartoons ... the adidas advertising people have won me over. I'm not even a big Gilbert Arenas fan, but this commercial, more than anything else he's done, has me buying that he's an earnest, grounded, underdog.

I mean, honestly, I couldn't agree more.  I think it's really clever, and it definitely makes him look so different from the egotistic jerk a vast majority of ignorant fans believe him to be.  At the same time, I think that it's the type of commercial that won't ever get the full attention of the viewer.  It's not the type of commercial that will give anyone the chills, and it's not the type of thing that has incredible imagery.  It's simple and cute, which is both a good thing and a bad thing.

What do you think of the commercial?
