Wizards Insider is reporting that the Wizards have released Mike Hall. This was a move that everyone saw coming when management decided to keep Etan Thomas on the active roster. There simply wasn't any room under the cap to keep the GW alum on the roster. In case you were wondering, he was released before tonight's game against the Pistons.
Hall's presence wouldn't have really mattered much anyway as the Pistons won tonight 104-85. If Jarvis harbored any resentment toward the Wizards, he let it out tonight going for 21 points in 24 minutes on 8-13 shooting, including 2 of 4 from beyond the arc. Hayes wasn't the only Piston feeling it though, Detroit shot 47 percent from the field and 67 percent (!!!) from downtown. After really looking solid the first few games of the preseason, the defense has really lagged. I think we can all agree that the defense we saw the first few games wasn't going to be the defense we saw during the regular season but the last two games have raised a lot of warning flags about how much this defense has actually improved and how much of it is just the same empty talk we heard last year.
Then again, it is still preseason. It would foolish to expect everyone to be giving 100% on D for games that don't count. Let's hope that tonight was just a bad night against a good, experienced team and that the Wizards can close out the preseason strong on Friday night against Toronto. If they don't finish strong, use the words of Agent Zero to comfort you:
