Improving The Defense of the Washington Wizards

Aspects of the match-up zone, how Flip Saunders really helped the team, and what the Wizards need to concentrate on to improve their three-point defense.

Following Up On Denver: Tinsley & Juwan

To follow up on the latest competition discussion of the Denver Nuggets.....

.....now they are signing Juwan Howard (again) and possibly trading for Jamaal Tinsley?

(Note: Nuggets PG Chucky Atkins, rumored to be involved in the trade, recently had knee surgery and is slated to be out 6 weeks....so Tinsley would be somewhat of a reaction to injury.)

Curious. Why not just keep Camby then?

Worse Than Dealing With Arenas' Knee Injury?

When I saw the headline run across the bottom line last night, "McGrady says arthritic shoulder needs surgery," I was a little shocked.

Arthritic shoulder? Really? McGrady is less than three years older than Gilbert, and he's already experiencing ailments reserved for the broken hip and early bird special ward.

Of course, Arenas is far from being out of the woods with his knee problems....but I suppose Houston and DC can be empathetic towards each others injury woes.

I'd be really surprised if T-Mac played more than 65 games this season.

Tuff Juice #24 in Slam Top 50

With Arenas out, Butler knows (this time a little bit ahead of time) that he will be playing the role of the man coming into the season.

Gilbert Ducks Out of Media Day

All hands on deck.....except for Gil.

[UPDATE]: More from the Sports Bog.....

"If healthy, we're the best team in the Eastern Conference. That's how I feel. Hands down, we're the best team in the Eastern Conference if healthy."
-Caron Butler

Perhaps this year's slogan should have been just a giant "IF" on a billboard.

Jamison #29 in Slam Top 50

29 seems about right for a guy who is always overlooked and constantly undervalued (but not by Wizards fans).

Mike Jones Q&A with Antonio Daniels

From the Washington Times:

Jones:Gil said that even before the third surgery he was going to miss training camp and wasn't expecting to play until January. Was that a surprise to you?

A.D.: I don't really know. I'm not really educated enough on microfracture surgery and how long it takes, so if he had told me that he was gonna miss training camp, I'd just figure it was a precautionary move and it's an extra two weeks to rest and give it more time to heal.

So, is this just another indicator of lack of communication? If so, does Arenas have an obligation to inform the guy who will be filling in for him?

Daniels also says that he declined to have surgery on his wrist after seeking a second opinion. I sure hope the doctors are right in his case, because that wrist will be seeing a lot more action.

Uhh....I guess it's good the Wizards didn't draft Chalmers or Arthur

Seems like Mario and Darrell have gotten themselves into trouble and kicked out of the NBA rookie transition program.

Whether they are guilty or not, we can all breathe easy that the Washington Wizards, with all of their past "issues," are not involved. Now I will go find some wood to knock on somewhere.
