Mike Jones: Wizards Still Waiting On Young

Mike Jones (who?) writes about Nick Young's struggles in his new job working for Comcast SportsNet.

Oberto still likely will be the first option at center off the bench with JaVale McGee the third option and used here in various situations. McGee has been struggling with some fatigue late in practices, which has caused him to lose some mental focus late, Saunders said. "That's his biggest thing, you know, being able to fight through getting tired," Saunders said of McGee. "As a young player, I'm sure he's being overwhelmed a little bit. He's had three coaches, he's learning a new system. So what he learned last year, he's learning all new things. Older players have seen it, from being on other teams or from being in the league, but younger players have to learn it." McGee still will be called upon because the Wizards want to save Oberto some for the postseason, Saunders said. "You have the idea that he was going to be the guy that's going to help us playoff time, so you don't want to try to wear out a guy like that if you can avoid it." But McGee still has some learning to do, which Saunders expects him to do both by watching and playing. There's no chance the Wizards send him down to the D-League, however, because they believe he can still help them right now in certain situations.

Mike Jones (who?) wants you to chill on the JaVale McGee trade rumors

"I have it on very good authority that there is no truth to this whatsoever. Perhaps OKC has interest in McGee, which would make sense, but that doesn't mean the teams have had discussions. Often, I'm told, teams will throw rumors out there to get counterparts to nibble, thus starting up some discussions. The Wizards are very happy with McGee and believe he will blossom into a multiple All-Star. Trading McGee would also put the Wizards on the market for another center of the future and backup to Brendan Haywood, because Etan Thomas is injury prone and has an expiring contract the Wizards would like to move. II'm also hearing that the Wizards aren't at all interested in James Harden, believing that the Arizona State guard lacks the expolosiveness, athleticism and ball-handling skills that they're looking for."

Mike Jones Q&A with Antonio Daniels

From the Washington Times: Jones:Gil said that even before the third surgery he was going to miss training camp and wasn't expecting to play until January. Was that a surprise to you? A.D.: I don't really know. I'm not really educated enough on microfracture surgery and how long it takes, so if he had told me that he was gonna miss training camp, I'd just figure it was a precautionary move and it's an extra two weeks to rest and give it more time to heal. So, is this just another indicator of lack of communication? If so, does Arenas have an obligation to inform the guy who will be filling in for him? Daniels also says that he declined to have surgery on his wrist after seeking a second opinion. I sure hope the doctors are right in his case, because that wrist will be seeing a lot more action.
