Howard added that Arenas is back on board ready to make amends. "Gil has also been through a lot, and being able to see him in the summertime and see his work ethic, I know he's coming to play," Howard said. "Chip on his shoulder or not, I know the man is coming to play. I know I have a chip on my shoulder, too. Two guys like that on the court are going to be hard to stop."

I don't know how the story will end, but I'm certainly someone who deals with things [with] a very open mind. I'm more a healer than I am a breaker-upper, right?

"That’s the thing about it. When you read papers and things like that, I’m the one who’s getting surgeries, I’m the one who’s going thru pain and I’m the one that’s going through the rehab. As much as you guys are mad, I’m sitting here mad too about the whole situation. At the end of the day, it happens. That’s where I got my mind to. It happens to people. Some people get hurt and some people get back their careers. My favorite player Penny (Hardaway) never gained his career back, but players like Grant Hill got to play again so hopefully I can keep moving too."

Wizards Insider. Good to see that Gilbert's taken Nick Young under his wing in order to teach him a few veteran tricks.

I talked to Tapscott about this 10 days ago and, while he didn't want to push Gilbert, he made it clear that it would certainly help the team formulate its off-season plans if they could look at Arenas for even a few games. Practice doesn't tell you enough. Gilbert is a hard guy to figure. But, even if he only plays in a handful of games, will certainly be helping the Wiz get a handle on his value. They assume that he is so talented that, if necessary, he could adapt his game __to a degree__ and still be extremely valuable. Pass more, etc. But they certainly want to see how much defense he can still play. I'm looking forward to going out to see his return.

Believe It When You See It According to an insider with legit knowledge of the situation, regardless of whatever mixed messages Arenas is sending about whether or not he's coming back, and despite the "no official time table" line that's given whenever a question is asked about Arenas and Haywood's returns, the Wizards expect to get both players back for roughly the final 15 games of the season. The plan is to limit both players to roughly 15 minutes a night and hold them out of any back-to-backs. The Wizards believe that such a final stretch run with the whole gang back together again will go a long way to getting the players back into a flow of playing with each other and also lay a foundation for next season. via Mike Jones - Wizards Outlet, Washington Times

Here is the skinny, according to a source with intimate knowledge of the situation. Arenas’ knee is better off right now than it was when he tried to come back at the end of last season. While he has yet to play a game for the team, he regularly plays in two-on-two and three-on-three games with teammates. In fact, if this season weren’t already a wash, Arenas would probably, according to the source, be playing games right now. He would not, however, play in back-to-back games. One of the main concerns is whether or not he would have any swelling in the knee and, according to the source, there is no swelling at all. This was not the case at any point last season. Still, there is no guarantee that he will be back this season. In fact, with the Wizards so far out of playoff contention already, it is a good possibility that he won’t be back at all this season.

And the company line from Ernie Grunfeld is that Gilbert Arenas is coming back, but the growing sentiment in the locker room that it's not going to happen. "It doesn't look like anybody's coming back this year," one player said. "Nobody. I don't think so. I'd be surprised."

They are only whispers but I'm hearing chatter that Gilbert Arenas and the team is seriously pondering whether to bring him back at all this season. He originally targeted Dec. 1 as a possible comeback date and certainly expected to be in uniform last night but remains on the shelf with not clear date in sight.

Ugh. I should be surprised, but I'm not.

"If this was eight games before the playoffs, and i had to play, I'd be playing. I'm at the same spot where I was last year when I came back that Milwaukee game. So, if I had to, had to play, I would just do it. I don't know if it would hold up or not, though."

Gilbert Arenas via "Grunfeld confident, Gil still progressing" - Wizards Outlet Mike Jones of the Washington Times has a pretty good update on Wizards Outlet -- evidently Gilbert played Nick Young one-on-one last week, and embarrassed Nick in winning by one point.
