Pollin': Detroit goes Brown

+

Flickr/Cave Canem So it appears that Washington's prodigal son has found himself a new home in Detroit.  At first, I have to admit that I was really surprised that Kwame could still net a 2...

After re-signing both Arenas and team captain Antawn Jamison this month, and adding backup point guard Dee Brown, the Wizards are between $1 million and $1.5 million under the NBA luxury tax for the coming season.

Washington Times. Huh? How did that happen? I thought we established that we had 3.4 million before signing Dee Brown. Where did all that money go? If we knew we'd have this little under the tax, we might as well have kept Bill Walker.

Now it's officially official.

The i's are dotted, the t's are crossed, and Gilbert has put his signature on his new contract. MFL!

James Posey remains the most coveted unrestricted free agent still on the market and New Orleans is being increasingly described as perhaps the biggest threat to Boston keeping him... Washington is highly interested as well, but the Wizards have to find a way to shed a salary or two to have the financial flexibility to make a representative bid.

Marc Stein, ESPN. Nothing unexpected, but it's nice to know that Ernie at least wants him, even if we probably aren't (and really, probably shouldn't) get him.

Free agent forward Jarvis Hayes plans to sign a two-year contract with the New Jersey Nets, a league source with knowledge of the negotiations said. Hayes met with New Jersey management in Orlando, Fla., on Thursday and left confident that he’ll sign for the bi-annual exception that would pay him $4 million over two seasons.

Roster crunching

Assuming the Jazz don't match the Wizards' contract offer, Dee Brown becomes the 14th person on the Wizards' roster with at least a partially guaranteed contract. Why is that significant?  R...

Matt Barnes is on the list. I cannot believe what Barnes must go through every year. For a team that likes to run, he is a perfect complimentary piece off the bench. He is the ideal back-up combo forward for the Warriors, Suns, Knicks, Sixers, etc. He makes open shots, defends, runs the floor and does the little things. It is unbelievable to me that he has to earn a roster spot every single season.

Coach Brian McCormick. I've always considered McCormick a smart man, so this boosts Barnes up a little in my book. Aren't those the very qualities we desperately need?

Also yesterday, the Wizards signed Utah Jazz restricted free agent point guard Dee Brown to an offer sheet for a two-year, partially guaranteed deal. Utah has one week to match the offer.

Post. From my limited read on Brown, he's a good playmaker who couldn't shoot the ball into the Potomac River. Basically, he's a younger Mike Wilks. This better be for the minimum though...

A sad, but necessary farewell

As many of you know, I interned last summer at Comcast SportsNet.  My main job was to be their Blog Show intern, but I had the same experience other interns did, in that I logged tape, helped to...

Mason signs with Spurs

He'll be getting $7.5 million over 2 years. Not bad. There will be more on this later, but I think I can speak for most everyone in wishing him the best as he heads to San Antonio.
