Jamison for Curry or Randolph?  Yeah, no.
The Roger Mason diary

Highest Plus/Minus: Antonio Daniels & Antawn Jamison (+10)
Lowest Plus/Minus: Darius Songaila (-3)

Today was an eventful one for the Wiz, let's try and rank the events from the best to the worst:

  1. The Dream is still alive.  SVPStyle chronicles how it has changed sports in the D.C. & Baltimore area.
  2. Etan Thomas is on the road to recovery.
  3. The Wizards' three-point shooting.  Some of the shots that Stevenson and Butler were hitting were simply ridiculous and whenever you can get a random three from Daniels, it's all the better.
  4. The Wizards' D.  Dallas came into the game averaging 101 points per game on 47% shooting, tonight 84 points on 41% shooting.
  5. Oleksiy Pecherov running the fast break!
  6. Oleksiy Pecherov with a block!
  7. Caron still hasn't hit missed a free throw this year.
  8. I swear Jamison released one of his scoop shots from his hip today.  I don't know how he does it, but he does it and it's still amazing every time I see it.
  9. Nick Young closing out on a three point shot.  There was one play (I think it was in the fourth, but it might've been the third) where Devin Harris shot a three and Young sprung up and completely spooked him as he released it.  Normally I'm not one of those guys that gets into "Oh, he was in his head all game" but in this case I think it has some merit.  Young's wicked hops caused Harris to alter his shot and it ended up hitting the top of the backboard.
  10. Eddie Jordan injecting Powerthirst into everyone's hands today.  The Wiz had 11 steals and lots of pass deflections throughout the game.
  11. Caron Butler with the 4 by 5 today (25 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals, 5 assists).
  12. This play:

58. Orlando eeking out the win against Detroit tonight, keeping their division lead at 2 games.

97. The D on Josh Howard.

849,340,640,618.  WEEPING, MASS WEEPING.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Sick Nasty...
Anyone else notice HOW MUCH the ball was given to Caron? He seemed to be the go-to guy, which he very well should be! He was set up for a one-on-one in the corner about every 3 possessions. THIS is ONE of the reasons we won. Whenever he didn't score on those ISO's, he was because the ball softly bounced off the rim...

Also: THE WIZ DEFENSE????  What is going on here... All of last season, I just hoped that they would outscore the opponent, because their defense was atrocious. Very interesting stat from Deadspin:

"It was the sixth time this year that the Wiz have held an opponent under 85 points, something the club didn't do once all of last season. Washington is 6-0 in those games. Crazy coincidence."

Even Darius was working his butt off on those switches. I don't like him very much - takes some ill-advised outside shots, but he might grow on me.

THE KEY to victory: work the offense mostly through Caron, DEFENSE, make sure Deshawn can't feel his face.

The KEY to a possible Eastern Conference Finals? - A healthy Gil + this currently amazing Wizards team.

Also... credit to Jamison
I apologize... no credit given to Antawn. I've also been very critical of his outside shots and ill-advised 3-pointers. I feel he should stick to the block and make those awkward floaters.

HOWEVER, the dude just could NOT miss last night. And if that's the case, BY ALL MEANS, keep shooting. I was very impressed.
