Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Open NFL Thread: Week 1

A couple of links before to get you started:

  • Our very own Mac G has a great post on his blog about Half-man, Half-missile Bob Sanders.
  • White men CAN jump and they can jump quite high.
  • If you don't know what channel your favorite team is on, look here, if you don't know which SB Nation blog covers your team, look here.  If you're a Cardinals fan, you have bigger problems than finding a blog for your team.  If you're a Chargers fan, get off the L.T. bandwagon you bandwagoner!
  • Now as for my picks this week:

    Colts over Saints
Yes, I got the group started late (sorry!), we all missed this pick.  The good news is that the playing field is still even.

Update [2007-9-9 12:22:30 by Pradamaster]: That means this week doesn't count, so it's not too late to join the pick 'em league. Also, the links on the teams are for their SB Nation blog correspondents. I can tell you for a fact that the Skins blog is absolutely phenomenal, so if you're a Skins fan, you definitely need to check it out. -PM

    Bills over Broncos
I think the Broncos are a sleeper this year (then again I've thought that for 5 years running) but they always have problems in the season opener so I'm taking the Bills here.

    Jaguars over Titans
I'm still not sure how I feel about Jacksonville parting ways with Leftwich, but the Jaguars won't really need a QB to rip up the Titans defense this week.  Not to mention that the Jaguars, unlike the Broncos, seem to perform better than average on opening day.

    Redskins over Dolphins
I'm not a Redskins fan, but I'm also not stupid enough to pick against them on a Wizards blog...at least not on opening week.

    Panthers over Rams
Carolina seems to be a team goes in a constant two year cycle of overachieving, then getting high expectations, underachieving, falling off people's radar, and then they come out of nowhere and overachieve again.  Since they underachieved last year, it's only natural that they come out this year and have a statement game by shutting down the Rams.

    Patriots over Jets
The Jets are good, but they're not that good.

    Falcons over Vikings
Remember the year Vick got injured and then they came out and pulled off a big upset in Week 1 against the Cowboys?  I think the same thing happens today, just it won't be as much of a surprise because the Vikings aren't exactly Super Bowl contenders.

    Steelers over Browns
I think Cleveland will give them a run for their money, but the Steelers will have enough to escape with a win.

    Eagles over Packers
Maybe this has something to do with having Donovan McNabb on my fantasy team, who knows.

    Texans over Chiefs
It's not a question of if Larry Johnson injured, or when he gets injured, it's a question of how many sportswriters will make the obvious "Hard Knocks" jokes afterwards.

    Seahawks over Buccaneers
I've never been a big fan of Matt Hasselbeck, but I'm pretty sure he's still better than Jeff Garcia.

    Chargers over Bears
Urlacher has talked a lot of smack in the buildup to this game, will he back it up?  I doubt it.

    Lions over Raiders
The Raiders defense should keep the Lions offense in check, unfortunately the only thing the Raiders O-line can keep in check is their emotion.

    Giants over Cowboys
Let's hope this one doesn't come down to a field goal...

    Ravens over Bengals
You know how Chad Johnson always asks "Who can stop number 85?"  I think he'll find out the answer.  He won't admit it, but he'll find out.

    Cardinals over 49ers
Just call it a gut feeling.

The thread is now yours to make fun of me with.  Or to talk about the game action, whichever suits you.
