D-Mac deal official

Ivan has the scoop.

The Washington Wizards announced the signing of second-round pick Dominic McGuire yesterday. Terms of the contract were not disclosed but McGuire, a 6-foot-8 forward from Fresno State, agreed to a three-year deal with the Wizards holding an option on the third year.

McGuire will make the league minimum of $427,163 this season and the contract is guaranteed.

Interesting.  It appeared the team would get Andray Blatche's contract under control before officially announcing this, but that's changed.  The article says those negotiations have "stalled," which could mean a lot of things.  Either Blatche is unwilling to sign for less money (which is stupid on his part, but you never know), or, as Spence theorizes, Ernie is channeling his inner David Stern and sending a message to Blatche by not even restarting negotiations.  I'm not sure I'd go that far, but I do think that the team announced the McGuire signing in part to add even more leverage in the Blatche negotiations.

If Blatche signs, that'll make 12 players, and Brian Chase and Mike Hall are being invited to training camp.  Jarvis Hayes and Michael Ruffin look to be as good as gone, so that leaves only Calvin Booth, Roger Mason, and Donnell Taylor to potentially fill out the roster.  I wouldn't be shocked if none of those guys were back, but I imagine Ernie will try to re-sign Booth, even if he doesn't have the money.  Just one man's guess though.

I thought Booth would be back for sure...
...when it appeared the Bullets were going to trade Etan Thomas or Brendan Haywood or both. If both are going to be back for 2007-08, as seems increasingly likely, the rationale for keeping Booth all but disappears.
