Alternate Uniforms: Trusted Everywhere

While I was looking up some videos for the next Youtubesman Report, I found these highlights of JC Navarro against the Wizards from last month.  Right when I was about to close the window and vomit in disgust, I noticed this comment from one of Navarro's fans back in his homeland:

Qué bueno es el tío. Y qué feo es el uniforme de Duracell de los Wizards.

I'll be the first to admit that I didn't learn anything in the 3 years of Spanish I took in high school, but I'm pretty sure that uniforme = uniform, Duracell = Duracell, and Wizards = Wizards.  Since most basketball fans in Europe are used to seeing their uniforms plastered with ads I'm guessing that perhaps the commenter thought that the uniforms were sponsored by Duracell, which isn't all that ludicrous when you think about it:

I think he might be on to something.

Pure energy
When I saw the picture, I thought that this was a post about Nick Young's spark off the bench. The teams has taken a ton of flak for those uniforms. I can't say it's unfair...

Speaking of scoring spark, about a quarter of the way into the season, there are currently FOURTEEN teams averaging over 100 points. That's almost half the league. Last season, there were nine at the end of the year. Is it a new officiating mandate?

Need to check same time last year...
My recollection is that the same thing was true last year.  Teams get worn down, players get injured, defense gets taken more seriously as the season progresses.  I'm not at all sure of that, but I think I remember being impressed by the +100 ratings last year, then noticing them fall across the board...

Good point
I'll look again in March and see if it's still true then.

nice graphic
Its scary how on the money the Duracell comparison is. Been  a very long time since I've taken Spanish, but I believe "feo" translates to "ugly". Between Hollinger and Spain, we get no respect.

I knew my Spanish degree would be useful someday
Literally, it's "How good uncle is. How ugly the Wizards Duracell uniforms are." I don't know if "uncle" is Navarro's nickname or if it was some relation posting that comment.

I got through 4 years of espanol in HS
The key word you left untranslated is "feo," which means ugly.

I'm far from fluent, but from the comment you quoted:

Qué bueno es el tío. Y qué feo es el uniforme de Duracell de los Wizards.

I'm coming up with this for a rough translation:

How good is the uncle (not sure what the reference is, so not sure what this means -- perhaps a reference to JCN). And how ugly is the Duracell uniform of the Wizards.

Sure we could go to a translation website and remove most of the uncertainty, but where's the fun in that?

"Now, obviously individual production does not unilaterally equal better team production, but there's a high level of causation."

Translation
The word "tio" is often used in Spanish to mean something along the lines of dude or guy, so the post referring to JCN said, "How good is that dude? and how ugly are the Duracell uniforms of the Wizards?". I have to agree. Those away uniforms are an eyesore. I can't wait for them to change them. A couple years from now we'll look back on them the same way we look at the Rockets uniform with the cartoon rocket and pinstripes and wonder how anyone could have thought it was a good idea.

I kind of like them
For the first time ever, the Wiz/Bullets have some uniforms that get noticed and talked about. Ugly, yeah kind of, but definitely noticeable.
