Tonight's lines:
Wizards at Timberwolves: Wizards by 2.5.
Over/Under on Big 3 scoring: 61.6 points.

So after Wednesday's satisfying win over Indiana, the Wiz hit the road to play the Minnesota Celtics tonight.  With a tricky back-to-back game at home against the frisky Trailblazers tomorrow, Eddie's going to have to find a way to limit Gilbert's minutes tonight, so that he can be fresh for tomorrow.

Of course, the easiest way to do that is to just win badly.  Minnesota got their first win of the season against Sacramento Wednesday, but they still aren't a team we should be too concerned about.  Interestingly enough, through six games, their offense has been fairly decent, thanks mostly to Al Jefferson and the emergence of Rashad McCants.  McCants, in particular, has been a scoring machine, averaging 18 points in just 25 minutes per game.

Where Minnesota has suffered without Garnett is on the other end of the floor.  They weren't great there last year, but Garnett at least made them mediocre.  Now, without Garnett, there's no defensive presence inside, and nobody who can break up pick and rolls.  Theo Ratliff used to be a great shotblocker, but that was a million years ago.  Greg Buckner is a decent wing defender, and Corey Brewer has potential, but otherwise, there's nary a defensive guy on the roster.  Jefferson will score, but I see Antawn Jamison having a field day on him defensively.

If I'm Eddie Jordan, I would use Darius Songaila extensively as a pick and roll guy for Gilbert Arenas when he's in the game.  Garnett was so good at stopping pick and rolls, but without him, who's going to be able to hedge and prevent Arenas from getting to the rim?  Jefferson?  Please.  Maybe Craig Smith can do the trick if he's in there, but otherwise, that's probably their best offense.

Defensively, I'd put Haywood on Jefferson, and let Jamison take his chances against Theo Ratliff and Craig Smith.  McCants will be tough to stop, but DeShawn Stevenson is our best wing defender, so I'm fairly confident.  Plus, if we go big, McCants won't be able to guard Caron Butler.

The closer the game is, though, the worse off we are.  Let's hope this is the blowout it should be.

This is an open game thread, so if you can find anyone who's hotter than Tom "The Bomb" Gugliotta, say so.

GO WIZARDS!

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooogs!!!!!
I gotta go with the Wiz and the over. (In fact, I think they make the over on Gil and Caron, but don't hold that against me).

If we can't beat that lineup by 3 points, well shame on us. Of course, i saw us lose to a Toronto squad of mostly NBDLers a few years ago, so you never know what's gonna happen. But I think the Wiz will come out with a sense that this is a very winnable game that that have to take.

LOL for the Googs!
He'll always have a special place in my heart

Also: Wiz, Over, and I agree with Jake, we're gonna see some McGuire-style Domination.

I remember when we drafted Googs....
It was the day before my birthday. I was a young buck going to the Bullets draft party at the USAir Arena...I think it had converted over from the Cap Center then...but people boo'd and boo'd when the Bullets drafted Googs.

Everyone wanted hometown hero, Walt Williams (or Harold Miner AKA "Baby Jordan").

We all know now that the right choice was made that day.

Nick Young
Um, what was he doing in the 2nd quarter? Turnover machine with no defense. Oh, can someone contest a Awalker 3?

Alley-oop
Quite the 4th qrt run. So lovely to see an athlete like Blatche on the receiving end of an alley-oop pass!

what a 4th Qtr
I have to give Eddie props for his sub pattern in the 4th. He found the right mix and stayed with it. Sat Twan, put Blatche back in for Darius when he was tired. Excellent Job Eddie.

I Have to Agree
If 4th quarter collapses are the fault of poor coaching (which I believe), then 4th quarter runs should be credited to the coaching.

Prada - you may want to save this post for posterity.  I am not a fan of Eddie Jordan and I rarely give him a compliment.  But tonight, the Wizards played their best ball when it counted.  That's a sign of a good, well-coached team.

Speaking of Sitting Twan...
What's up with him?  Is he finally showing his age?  He looks old, slow, and his defense has actually gotten worse, if that's possible.  What really grabs my attention, though, is how often he settles for an outside shot (which he almost always misses) and how little he actually drives to the basket anymore.  I saw one nice transition flip-shot from him tonight, but that's it.  His offensive game was poor tonight, in my opinion, and that makes him darn near worthless.

EJ
Cuppettcj, I agree about EJ. I have hated it when he would just put a player in cold for long stretches for no apparent reason(D.Taylor, Ruffin, Mason Jr) or play crazy lineups. He seemed to want to outsmart people with a 3 by a random role player at the end. It was baffling and I cold go on and on.

This team slept walk through the 2-3rd quarters but turned it on in the 4th when it mattered. Nice team win and I like the excitement from the bench.

Nice Game by Gil and Tuff Juice again. Haywood is a different player and Blatche can be the X factor for this team with his ability to block shots and run the floor for easy buckets.

Oh, and Another Thing
Why does Eddie play Nick Young so much and not D-Mac?  While Nick has more talent and potential, I think Dominic has a game that can help the Wizards right now.  I have never failed to be impressed by him whenever he was on the floor in the preseason, so why doesn't he get more time now?

Nick Young

I think Eddie keeps trying to play Nick Young because the Wiz need offense off of the bench....D-Mac can't give that right now.

But as we all continue to find out...Young is not bringing anything on D, and his offensive decisions are forced and questionable at a minimum.

Don't look at the Memphis Box Score
Juan Carlos Navarro tied the rookie 3-point makes in a game record last night. Is there any way we could give the Griz their conditional draft pick back and Deshawn Stevenson and Nick Young so we can get back JCN? I love Big Ern but he really dropped the ball on that one.

Revisionist history
That was probably JCN's first good game this year, and he's absolutely awful defensively.  I'd rather have DeShawn/NY1.

good win
won for the first time in 6 or 7 years in minnesota. for those of us predicting 45+ wins, that should help our cause. so would a win tonight against portland. i hope the wiz exact some revenge for last season's loss.

caron is looking like the mvp of this team right now.
