Is anyone else ready for Wizards season?  Wait, that's a silly question.  Presenting, this year's first Bullets Forever regular-season game thread!

As you can see, there's a slightly different format for the game threads.  We'll try to stick mostly numbers there instead of us rambling, just so we can focus on the game itself.  I put the gambling lines up there because we had a contest here last year where you made picks on those before every game, and I'd like to do it again, except this time we'll give out actual prizes to the winner (I still have the posters in my room for last year's winners).

As for the game, the one thing that's interesting about these numbers is that, as much as Jim O'Brien talks about pushing the pace, Indiana already played that way last year.  They were ninth in pace factor (the Wizards were fifth, by the way), yet they still couldn't score.  All this is a roundabout way of suggesting that this game will be played at the Wizards' tempo.

Defensively, Indiana was good last year, but they'll suffer if Jermaine O'Neal doesn't play.  With O'Neal, Indiana can turn the Wizards into a jumpshooting team.  Without him, that'll open up the lane for slashes to the basket.

This is an open game thread, so celebrate accordingly.  I'll be here the entire time, though I'll probably be listening rather than watching, since I've yet to figure out the league-pass-broadband-without-a-TV conundrum.  Join me in the comments section tonight, and every night, for live banter.

GO WIZARDS!

Over.  I think Gilbert might be a little below average, but Caron and Antawn will step it up.

Picks
Wizards by 8, Big 3 go under. I think we're gonna see some rust from the Big 3 also.

I'm just hoping Caron is big so I don't look so bad for grabbing him in the second round.

League Pass with No TV
I set that up last year at one point.  Try to access it through nba.com, you'll have to authenticate with some sort of account information (whichever account you subscribed through, probably you're wireless provider).  My recollection is that it was pretty simple once you found the right page.

by sierradave on Oct 31, 2007 6:41 PM EDT reply actions

I can do that
Even if I have no actual TV subscription?

The problem is I never had League Pass at home.  I want to pay for it, but use it only with the computer.

Is that possible?

by hotplate on Oct 31, 2007 7:22 PM EDT reply actions

Opposing commentators are idiots
So far, the Indiana broadcasters have:
  1. Suggested Arenas is one of the best two guards in the nba.
  2. Claimed twice that the Wizards are surprised by the pace of the game, and that the Pacers are wearing them out with the up-tempo style.

Uh, does somebody want to e-mail them some video clips from last season or something?

Nope

I don't think you have to set it up

I can use ad money to pay for an official Bullets Forever League Pass account.  It would be a nice present, considering I never mailed out last year's prizes.

that can't be right, can it?

Antawn Jamison for Andrei Kirilenko ASAP
We need another defender in the frontcourt. Butler isn't enough up there. Why haven't we made this deal yet???

by crucifictorious on Nov 1, 2007 1:48 AM EDT up reply actions

Maybe Because...
Kevin O'Connor (Jazz GM) would laugh in Ernie's ear as soon as the words left Ernie's mouth?  Jamison is All-Star old, Kirilenko is All-Star young.  We would need to package too much to get him, if we had enough that interested O'Connor to begin with.
