Open Thread and Contest: Game 33

Regular Season Game 33
Toronto Maple Leafs Raptors (14-19) at Wizards (19-13)
ACC (no, not Atlantic Coast Conference)
1:00 PM
CSN, TSNT, The Score

grrrrrr

Previous results: haven't play yet yo.

Light previewing: Being able to catch a lot of Raptor games up here, I'd like to give you some incites for those unfamiliar with this squad:

  • Andrea Bargnani (remember him? #1 pick? yeah! him!) can play for real, Darko he is absolutely not

  • He'll launch a 3 when you think he shouldn't and make it

  • He'll occasionally drop some sick dimes

  • He doesn't close his mouth. Ever.

  • He's Italian, just thought I'd mention that

Other things you might expect from the Dinosaurs:

  • Jose Calderon will get at least one friggin easy layup because his defender don't think he get by

  • Anthony Parker is the closest player I've seen to emulate MJ's fadeaway form (not sayin' he's as good obviously.. just the form is similar)

And basically the Wizards shouldn't take this sub .500 team too lightly. They're not rollovers and have legit scoring power from Bosh (hasn't missed a beat just 2 games back) so he'll cause problems for the frontcourt players. The win against the Hawks Friday is certainly a good confidence boost after falling just short against PHX. But I think if the Wiz are able to contain the contributions of MoPete, Parker, Graham and Bargnani the win is theirs.

Because on the flip side, I think it's safe to say the Big 3 can impose their fury more than usual since the Raps have a hard time containing players ie their defense aren't that good (they're 2nd in the lig in allowing offensive rebounds)

The only other way the Wiz lose is party hangover?...nah...besides the brisk Toronto air will filter out any toxins (or so I've heard)

Lil' article from Raps beat writer Dougie Smith. Ah, he got a lot of the details wrong but he does mention that TJ is back in the lineup. No word yet on Eric Bana Jorge Garbajosa

It's updated
Huh, interesting that Toronto's the favourites, but I have the same feeling too (this game might be worth a looker)

interesting game
The Raps did make the trip to Chinatown in the Wizards lone pre-season home game. Even though it was quite early in Andrea's first season you could tell he's not going to be pushed around (especially by Brenda).

I really want to take this line but I have no idea what those guys were doing in the VIP...all I know is that Cal Booth was sweating more than I've seen all season.

must've been the bacon
and maybe HE'S the reason the ice sculpture melted so fast?

Glad to have you around UM. C'mon, take the line, I know you're a baller fo realz!

Re: Bacon
The line jumped to 1.5 at Bodog so I dropped fifty. I'm hemorrhaging cash so they best be coving.

Garbajosa's jersey is UNTUCKED!
it's OVA!!

just kiddin: mid way 1st qt-- both teams look sharp.

Raps passing very well for good shots, Wiz doin the inside outside (more outside) with Brenda gettin a couple

Arenas JUST got his first bucket...

1st quarter notes and incites
--Wiz' shot selection isn't good, not much ball movement
--likewise on taking care of the ball: bad turnovers led to easy breakaways
--Raps have the advantage in pts in paint: Brenda is Chris Bosh' new gf

by TheHype on Jan 7, 2007 1:36 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Bargnani..... he's damn good
he just made a running alley-oop-(layup) and got the  and1 call

and what did I tell you about the mouth thing.. uncanny..

I think why he's effect is that he has guard skills in dribbling and dishin but can RUN

wiz still all one-on-one, and I think that's why it's not working on Toronto: they're good team defenders

Oy vey
This is not pretty so far and Brenda's stupid fouls aren't helping matters. I think we're heading for a heavy dose of Andray...and I couldn't be happier about that.

I'm just glad Pitt is covering at this point.

Italian athletes
no surprise to see Andrea running his mouth just like the Italian soccer team.

Andray's in!
And Jarvis made a shot!!!

by Unsilent Majority on Jan 7, 2007 1:44 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He even roughed up Andray I think
or someone I couldn't tell, but he just put 'em to the ground... but he's a cool customer though, his reactions never change it's just "ok, i make shot, good"

it was ARENAS!!! (replay)
that bitch andrea will PAY!!! haha I'm fickle like that

Second Half
I sense a big third quarter on the horizon...and quite possibly a double down halftime bet!

GIL is NINE FOR NINE!!!! for long bombs
hahhaha omg THAT'S uncanny

9/10
He missed one in the Clippers game, everybody just expected it to go in.

oh cookie crumbs!
title says it all...

DAAAAAGGER!
The difference between Gil and Kidd?

Gil is a buzzer-beater.
Kidd is a wife-beater.

Hooray Gil!

by Unsilent Majority on Jan 7, 2007 2:08 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Bosh doing anything he wants down low
Wiz' frontcourt can't hold him, if they do, he gets fouled

But they're being more aggressive driving to the hoop rather than jackin up long Js (which they still kinda do)

by TheHype on Jan 7, 2007 2:26 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wiz running
is getting them back into the mix of things. And they're making the Raps take shots late in the clock

The momentum is theirs right now

by TheHype on Jan 7, 2007 2:39 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

To the Raps credit
they're poised enough to find the open man just in time and stick it. Doesn't help that Arenas isn't defending the opposing guards (layups layups layups)

Down 15 heading into 4th...ouch

Wiz = :(
Calderón's mouth is open more often than Bargnani's...
