Regular Season Game 44
Pistons (25-17) at Wizards (26-17)
Verizon Center
7 PM
CSN

Previous Results:
Pistons 100, Wizards 91.
Pistons 115, Wizards 111.
Wizards 99, Pistons 96.

We kind of did this already Friday, but let me reiterate that, of the contending teams in the East, Detroit scares me the least.  The Wizards match up better with Detroit than either Cleveland, Miami (a top team in name only), or Chicago.  This is especially true when they play Chris Webber at center, because Antawn Jamison can now guard a player who won't pound him inside.  There's a reason why Antonio McDyess dominated the Wizards in the last matchup, while Webber struggled.

That's not to say Detroit isn't a formidable team.  I'd just rather see them than Cleveland or Chicago.

Your lines for tonight.

Pistons at Wizards: Wizards by 2.
Over/Under on Big 3: 69.9 points.

This is an open game thread, so any statements about Richard Hamilton, Chris Webber, and Rasheed Wallace returning to DC go here.

Goddammit
Antawn is hurt...won't make the trip to Toronto and won't come back tonight.

Thank you DeShawn Stevenson.

This would be a really bad loss...the Wizards are really thin up front.  Maybe Eddie will trot out an Etan/Brendan lineup.

eddie
is playing calvin booth,

so with antawn out, supposedly deshawn is part of the big 3 now?

Maybe
I just realized...this totally screws up the Big 3 contest.

small again?
Butler can not guard mcdeyes on the low post, why can not Etan/Haywood play at the same time? 3 Ts and none for Sheed yet. GIL 4 3!!

He's also getting abused by Prince
It's a good thing Detroit's not playing defense tonight.

And I'm with you on Thomas/Haywood
If Jamison is out for the game tomorrow, you might as well try it.  It's gotta work better than playing Calvin Booth at power forward.

Probably not, but it wouldn't surprise me
I don't really know any team that has enough cap space to give him a max deal.  Charlotte, Memphis, and Orlando are the teams, but they all are set at the point.  Even Memphis has Kyle Lowry.

If Detroit re-signs him, then he'll come close.  If Milwaukee signs him, then they won't.

Billups is interesting, because he probably doesn't deserve the max, but he's still underrated.  He's about as solid as they come when it comes to point guards.

Billups
I agree, Bucks should keep Mo Williams and save the money. Billups runs team, plays D and hits big shots. Not Max Money but you never know.

by Mac G on Jan 30, 2007 9:26 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I see him staying in Detroit
Williams is basically a poor man's Billups.  Milwaukee's getting there...they just need to stay healthy.

Thank you to Flip Saunders for matching up with us.  Really, thanks.

what a difference a year makes for Flip?
Last year at this time the media was trying to get the whole Pistons starting 5 into the All Star game but now there are whispers for Flip to go coach the Minnesota Gophers. Go from NBA title contender to the Sota Rodents? Isnt is supposed to be the other way around?

Stevenson fell on him, I think
It's the left knee that was sore for the last week...he was wearing a brace on it.

Jamison is out 'several weeks'
they were interviewing EJ on espn and he said Jamison will miss 'several weeks'. not good. either songaila needs to get healthy quick or we might need  to think about moving jarvis' expiring contract

by joshp on Jan 30, 2007 10:39 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Really, damn
Especially when he was just starting to play well.  It would be nice to see Songaila get healthy quicker.

The Wizards should have been trying to unload Jarvis all year, irregardless of this injury.  Only problem is that the rest of the league has seen that he sucks.

Jarvis Trades!
fooling around on the realgm trade thing, these are the possibilities i found;
Jarvis to DEN for Leinas Kleiza
Jarvis to MEM for Jake Tsakalidis
Jarvis to SA for Fransisco Elson

if were gonna be without Jamison and Sonagaila for an extended period, we just need to bring in another player or two in the frontcourt. its not even about getting a guy who can put up numbers, its just about  having enough bodies inside.

by joshp on Jan 30, 2007 11:41 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Post these in a different thread please
I'm tired of reinforcing the trade proposal primer.

Delfino
He always plays big minutes against the Wiz. I do not care for him but he's got nothing on his Argentine teammate in Chicago.
