Around SBN: Holding Tinsley Deal Over Dollars Doesn't Make Sense Bar-right-arrows

What? You'll take Jamison? And Hayes?!?

The talk in the latest thread about Antawn Jamison and Gerald Wallace got me thinking about a possible trade involving them and I came up with this:

Washington gets:
Gerald Wallace
Sean May

Charlotte gets:
Antawn Jamison
Jarvis Hayes
2nd round draft pick

In this scenario, the if you exclude the draft pick,  the point averages are identical and the Wizards would gain 2 rebounds and an assist and the slight advantage Washington gains from that is why I throw in the 2nd round pick that I really don't think would help the Wizards much anyway.

Why the Wizards would be interested in this trade:

  1. They get perimeter defensive help from Wallace.
  2. At least in my opinion, Sean May is a better fit at the 4 spot than Jamison, and when Eddie Jordan goes to a small lineup, May is would be a good fit as center, which I believe he played in college if I recall correctly.
  3. Having Arenas, Daniels, Stevenson, Butler, and Wallace would give the Wizards a slew of backcourt options.
Why the Bobcats would be interested in this trade:
  1. Veteran leadership from Jamison and legitimate outside threat to help Morrison.
  2. Tarheel fans would appreciate having Jamison in Charlotte and if they could pick up Vince Carter in free agency this summer, they'd be partying like it's 1997.
  3. Adding Hayes and an extra draft pick helps the Bobcats add to their youth movement.
I checked it on RealGM (Trade ID 3624127), the trade does work under the current salary rules.

So what do you all think?  Could this work?  Or am I being overly optimistic?

Yo! This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

Gotta be honest, don't see it happening
I can't see why Charlotte would do that trade, to be honest.  Trading away both Wallace and May?  I don't think it's going to happen.

The Wizards would have to throw in their first-rounder there if it were to happen.  I also see no use for Jamison on the Bobcats, hate to say it.

I think you're being a little optimistic.  If that trade were on the table, the Wizards should take it in a heartbeat.

That's what I figured
I thought it would be pretty hard to convince Charlotte to give up a fan favorite for a guy in decline, even if he has better numbers.  But on the bright side, it is the Bobcats we're talking about here, you never know what they might try and pull.

Hey, just my 2 cents
Wallace would be a great fit here.  Hopefully, they can snag him for the mid-level in the offseason once they rid themselves of Hayes.  Only problem is they also have to re-sign Stevenson, and signing Wallace would push them to the luxury tax threshold.

That is, unless Jamison opts out, but there's a better chance of the sky turning green than that happening.

hello
i don't think jarvis hayes has any trade value and i think they would be more interested in antonio daniels

Disagree
Not for their performances, but for their contracts.

Hayes is a free agent after this year, so you can get some cap relief if you trade for him now.  Daniels is signed for 4 more years.  Nobody's going to want Daniels in a trade.

my bad
but still they have tons of salary cap to work with, they are still the team with the lowest cap in the league

In a hot second...
I can't imagine Charlotte trading Sean May, not with their commitment to youth and appealing to the NC market, but I would take this trade in half a second.

Sean has been a beast when he's been healthy, and like I said on the other thread, I think Wallace would be a great fit here.

But, as much as I'd like Wallace for the playoff push, I think pursuing him in the offseason is a great choice.

BTW, I am obviously a huge UNC homer, but I've always thought the Wiz should take a look at Jackie Manuel.  He's athletic as anyone, long, can defend several positions, and doesn't need shots.  At least take a look at him with a 10-day contract.  He's playing really well in the NBDL right now (for the tiny bit that's worth)

Nah
SOrry.  Cant see Bobcats comming off 2 relatively young players for one of jamison's age and one who has a whole new knee.  I think that we all have to be real.  Jamison is a good scorer and occasional rebounder who is suited to play the 3, not the 4.  His contract is workable, so you look at teams in need of a 3.  Portland Has Randloph and although he has had issues in the past, he's been relatively quiet this year in terms of being in trouble and his ability to defer to a rookie in Roy leads me to believe he'll be able to work with arenas and butler.  Also, he'll be winning, which he has never had in his career.  Portland gets Jamison to not only clean up thier image, but also be a scoring force.  This allows them to play Aldridge, who they're high on.    Another option, although a long shot, is Jamison/Hayes for Rashard Lewis, who is in contract limbo.

None of those can happen
Like your outside the box thinking, but none of those trades work salary wise.  Check the trade machine to make sure the salaries work before proposing a trade idea.  Jamison makes too much money for those teams to trade for him, and I don't think either would really want him anyway.

I'm also not sold on Randolph working here.  He's a post player that needs the ball to succeed, and he's the epitomy of a ball-stopper.  He really hasn't deferred to Roy at all this year, to be honest.  Lewis is basically a softer, more perimeter-oriented version of Jamison.  He's younger, but the Wizards would be giving up a lot on the glass.

I don't think we're going to see anything big with the Wizards for a while.  They don't have what other teams want.  More likely, if there's a trade, it'll involve some of the bench guys.

just a thought
Just a though-would the wizz be willing to look at a player such as abdur-rahiem in sactown?  I know they're actively looking at moving either Bibby or Artest and possibly, you could manuever a Jamison/Hayes/Thomas for Bibby/Abdur-Rahiem deal, which would definetly bolster the team and keep with thier uptempo fashion.  Sac does it for the offense that Jamison brings, who could step in at 3, especially if Artest is being dangled.

Doesn't work with the trade machine
Also, I think Abdur-Rahim would slow Washington down.

Sacramento's looking to get younger, and Jamison doesn't help that one bit.
