BOYD, Part Deux?
Editor's Note: Good FanPost here, bumping to the front-page.
Remember a few years ago, when we were at the beginning of the Ted Leonsis era and one of the strategies that was constantly brought up, was the concept of BOYD (Bringing out Your Dead)? Well considering the options in free agency this year, why not consider this option going forward. I mean the Wizards have a number of options including amnestying Blatche and buying out Lewis to create cap space, but the question is, what will they do with that cap space?
NBA Playoffs 2012, Heat Vs. Pacers Open Thread
Sorry for the delay again. Here's tonight's late thread.
Your #QUOTESANITY Champion
There wasn't much Randy Wittman could do to get through to JaVale McGee about why he was benched, and there was nothing anyone could do to stop Can't Say I Do from winning #QUOTESANITY. With 59 percent of the vote, Can't Say I Do took down Valentine's Shories to become this year's champion.
Although Can't Say I Do was presumptive favorite from the onset, it faced some stiff competition along the way to the title. As we all expected, the McGee Bracket was the deepest of the four, and at times, made us question whether or not they'd even survive as the best McGee quote. Then, it had to face off against Andray Blatche's career-defining quote in the semifinals, where it hung on with just 52 percent of the vote. After all that, the finals were a relative breeze. Can't Say I Do's margin of victory in the finals over Valentine's Shorties was the second largest win for Can't Say I Do in the tournament.
Now that Can't Say I Do has taken its rightful spot as #QUOTESANITY champion, it can begin exploring how to maximize its newfound fame. Cant Say I Do has already come to terms with Truth About It on a movie deal, and we expect to see much more down the pipe. We can't say we know exactly what just yet, but we'll figure it out sooner or later.
Better Know A Free Agent: Kris Humphries
Depending on what the Washington Wizards do with Andray Blatche and Rashard Lewis, they could have around $12 million of salary-cap space to spend this summer. It remains to be seen if the Wizards actually use it or bank it towards the 2013 class, but in any event, there are a number of free agents that could help the team's push into playoff contention. We'll take a look at several of those options in this running series. Next up: Kris Humphries.
PREVIOUSLY: Eric Gordon, Nicolas Batum, O.J. Mayo, Ryan Anderson, Courtney Lee, Gerald Wallace, Ersan Ilyasova, Carlos Delfino, Lou Williams, Danny Green, George Hill, Marco Belinelli, Landry Fields, Brandon Rush, CJ Miles.
No links today, sorry. I was out yesterday and have spent all morning catching up. Consider this today's open thread.
2012 NBA Draft Lottery Countdown: Faith In Wizards Athletic Trainers?
UPDATE: We have to correct some information here. The Wizards actually replaced their assistant athletic trainer in 2008-09, before drafting John Wall, in addition to adding another staff position. We regret the error.
----
The Washington Wizards medical department is a source of deep and ongoing unease for most fans. From a laissez faire approach to Gilbert Arenas' rehabilitation to letting John Wall play injured basically his entire rookie season and everything in between, there isn't an overabundance of confidence in the resident sawbones. So when I read Michael Lee writing about Rashard Lewis' rehab difficulties...well, you'll see:
"He was killing me that day," Mack said later. "He was hitting threes, going to the rim, dunking. I think he kind of rushed into it. Trying to embarrass me, he kind of got himself hurt."
Lewis left the court and realized that his knee problem was more serious than thought. "I didn’t know the significance of a bone bruise," Lewis said last month. "I went and Googled it on my phone and it said, it could be from weeks, to months, to a year for it to heal. Took synvisc shots. I took every possible step."
So, a player concerned with putting health first discovered he had committed a serious misstep by using the Google machine after the fact. You may not be aware of this, but the Wizards replaced their assistant athletic trainers at the beginning of the John Wall era, retaining head trainer Eric Waters. Waters received the NBA Athletic Trainer of the Year Award in 2009/10, after Aaron Nelson of the Phoenix Suns the year before. Yes, those Suns.
