Knicks Vs. Wizards Postgame Quotes: Randy Wittman's Son Rubs Salt In The Wound

Photo

WASHINGTON -- Here are your postgame quotes following the Wizards' 107-93 loss to Jeremy Lin and the New York Knicks:

RANDY WITTMAN

On where the game was lost: "This game was really about containment. We couldn't contain the basketball, basically, I thought, all night long, whether it was in pick and rolls or with balls kicked out where they were blowing by us to the basket."

On the many fouls the Wizards committed in the third quarter: "You got to know when you're in the bonus or not in the bonus, when you can take a chance on going for an offensive rebound over the back of somebody and when you can't. We played that third quarter when they got into the bonus like we had no clue they got in the bonus. It was a parade to the free-throw line, and that really hurt us."

On the Knicks not having Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire: "Right now, after this game, I wish they would have played."

On containing the pick and roll: "When we did cover it, then we'd get beat right off the dribble after we got back to our men. That caused us to help, and [Tyson] Chandler had a lot of putbacks at the rim. So it's a combination of both, of controlling the high pick and roll the way we needed to."

On a text his son Ryan (profiled here) sent him: "He told me [Cornell] did a much better job than we did guarding him tonight. I already had that text message."

Raptors Vs. Wizards Postgame Quotes: Randy Wittman Sings John Wall's Praises

Photo

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Postgame quotes from last night's Wizards-Raptors game:

RANDY WITTMAN

On John Wall setting the tone: "John led it with his play on both ends of the floor. The pace of the game in that first quarter, to me, was incredible. His decisions, going all the way to the basket, his defensive pressure, we just kind of all fell in right behind that. That’s what a guy like him can do when he’s playing like that. That was as good a game as I’ve had with him on both ends of the floor."

On what happened in the fourth quarter: "We still have to realize that when you are a scorer in this league and you are scoring, other teams scout just like we do. They’re going to get the ball out of your hands. We have to be willing passers when that happens. That’s a compliment. They are doubling you for a reason. So now, what we got to do is make the simple plays."

Celtics Vs. Wizards Postgame Quotes: John Wall Wanted To Guard Paul Pierce Straight Up

Photo

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Here are your postgame quotes from today's 100-94 Wizards loss to the Celtics. The most striking ones involve John Wall seemingly disagreeing with all the late double-teams on Paul Pierce when he was guarding him. Here they are:

John Wall

On who decided he'd guard Pierce: "I wanted to. I was ready to guard him."

On why he asked to guard Pierce: "We were trying different ways. He was just scoring, so why not try another person on him?"

On the Wizards' strategy to double-team him: "With a player like that, it's tough to double-team him because he does a good job of picking you apart. That's what he did."

On whether he wanted to guard Pierce straight up with no double-team: "Yeah, I think I would have. He's a great player for a reason. He's going to find a way, so I would have tried to guard him straight up and, if not force him into a tough shot, force him to find a man in the paint where there's an opportunity for a shot block then. When you send the double-team early, you give him an opportunity to pick us apart and find shooters, especially that basket Kevin Garnett hit."

Nuggets Vs. Wizards Postgame Quotes: Flip Saunders On Booing Andray Blatche

Photo

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The quotes are brief today because the team shuttled out quickly. Andray Blatche was gone by the time we entered the locker room, and the players that did speak didn't speak for long. Here are your quotes, though, featuring Flip Saunders commenting on the fans booing Blatche.

Flip Saunders

On the second quarter: "The pace that they play at, that's how they always play. We don't always play at that pace, so I think some of our guys got a little bit winded and we got caught up into their game."

On the late-game execution: "At the beginning of the year, we did so much one-on-one. We're moving the ball better, a lot more assists tonight, but sometimes we have a tendency late for the ball to get stoned to us. We hold the ball and we wait for the defense to guard us instead of getting the ball right away, attacking them and keeping them on their heels. We didn't do as much of that late, and I'd like us to be more aggressive."

On booing Andray Blatche: "I can understand where fans get upset or whatever, but I've always said this ... booing is not going to help somebody play better. It's showing displeasure, but I don't think by booing, all of a sudden he's going to go out and get 20 points and 15 rebounds because you're booing him. If that was the case, everyone would do it."

Thunder Vs. Wizards Quotes: Flip Saunders Is No Longer Eating At Subway

Washington Wizards guard John Wall, second from right, celebrates 105-102 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder with teammates Jan Vesely, of the Czech Republic, and Roger Mason, right, in an NBA basketball game on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, in Washington. WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Here are some quotes from the Washington Wizards' locker room following Wednesday's 105-102 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. My favorite, though, comes from Flip Saunders. You may remember his infamous Subway quote on Monday, so SB Nation D.C.'s Michael Katz smartly asked Saunders where he was eating tonight.

"No Subway today," he responded.

Ah, the taste of victory. More quotes below the jump.

Raptors Vs. Wizards: Flip Saunders, Others Discuss Lineup Change

Photo

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Hello, Wizards fan. You're probably here to learn more about the new starting lineup Flip Saunders rolled out in the Wizards' first win of the season over the Toronto Raptors. As it turned out, this was a major topic during the post-game media session. Shocking, I know.

In the post-game press conference, Saunders revealed that he actually planned to make the change on Monday. He talked to Andray Blatche to reveal his plans, so this was not an injury-related thing. Blatche and Rashard Lewis actually ended up playing with the second unit in practice. In addition to that, Blatche also did injure his shoulder in practice, and the team wasn't sure either he or Lewis (ongoing knee pain per Saunders) would be able to play. Both ended up playing.

"I told [Andray] we needed some offensive punch, some stability from the bench," Saunders said.

For now, Blatche and Lewis seem on board.

"Even if it costs the job of me coming off the bench, if this is how it is all season long, as long as we playing like that I don't have no problem doing that role. It's all winning and making steps," Blatche said. ... "In that situation we won, and I like it that way, you know? As long as we got a win column on the list off a situation like that, why change it?"

(UPDATE: As DavidDunn noted, Blatche also said this: "It's fine to me, as long as we winning. If we're not winning, then that's when everything change.").

"Hey, if we can win ballgames every night, and me coming off the bench, Dray coming off the bench, let's do it," Lewis told SB Nation D.C.'s Michael Katz. "I'm all about winning. My whole motto my whole career is I do whatever it takes to win ballgames, and if we're going to win ballgames with us coming off the bench, then I'd rather win than be a starter."
