Briefing: Eight isn't great when you're losing

Game Hub | Box Score | Game Flow

Rook couldn't have put it better.  Odds are, this losing streak is still going to get worse before it gets better.  The good thing is, thanks to this Western swing, most of the carnage will occur after bedtime.

Wizards Losing Streak Reaches Eight - Dave Johnson, CSN Washington

The game was played at Energy Solutions Arena and the Washington Wizards could have used one. Instead with Deron Williams running the offense and Carlos Boozer finishing at the basket the Jazz extended the Wizards losing streak to eight games with a 112-89 victory. "We lost some close ones and we have lost ones when we got out butt kicked," Wizards coach Flip Saunders said of his team’s slide. "If they think it is just going to happen and get better, it’s not. We have to play accordingly and we can’t play loose or have throw- away type possessions."

Jazz rout Wizards to end 2-game losing streak - Associated Press

Andray Blatche scored 24 points and Mike Miller added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Wizards, who lost their eighth straight game. Washington shot just 3 of 22 from the field and was outscored 31-15 in the third quarter as Utah built a 90-60 lead. The Wizards shot 36.9 percent for the game.

Washington Wizards continue to struggle as they lose to Utah Jazz, their eighth straight defeat - Michael Lee, Washington Post

The Wizards shot just 3 of 22 (13.6 percent) and were outscored 31-15 in the third period. They couldn't respond with much, although Blatche tried with his mouth midway through the third. He dunked over Okur and leaned forward to taunt him. Problem was, the Wizards were trailing by 22 points at the time. Blatche picked up a technical on the play and fans started chanting, "Scoreboard! Scoreboard!"

Wizards lose their 8th in a row

The Utah Jazz are a very good team. The Washington Wizards are not. End result = blow out.

Surprisingly, the Wizards played well in the first quarter, sharing the ball and generally playing together. They had 6 assists on 9 made field goals and the game was tied at 25 after one quarter. After that, Utah simply ran their pick-and-roll game to perfection - and steadily pulled away to take a 14 point halftime lead.

The Wizards started to show tired legs in the 3rd quarter, as they shot a pathetic 3 for 20 (15%), and almost every shot was coming up short. On the defensive side, they stopped moving their feet and started reaching, committing 10 fouls in the quarter.

After that, it was garbage time, as the Jazz led by 30 after three quarters.

Stay tuned, this may not be the worst loss on the current road trip. They have to play Denver tomorrow, and remember that Washington beat Denver in Washington back on February 19th. The Nuggets will remember that game. Denver lost a close game to the Rockets tonight 125-123 (more fuel for Denver's fire).... and Washington will be playing their 5th game in 6 days. After that, they play at Portland and then at the Lakers. This losing streak could get ugly.

The Wizards play the Utah Jazz for the first time this year, and will play them again later this month at the Verizon Center. The Jazz just came off a tough road trip where they went 2-2; losing the last two games to Milwaukee and Oklahoma City. Both Center Mehmet Okur (back) and forward Andrei Kirilenko (calf) are questionable for this game.

This is an open thread, so everyone chime in.

UPDATE: According to Wizards Insider, Shaun Livingston will start in place of Randy Foye.... Interesting.

GO WIZARDS!

Keys to the Palace: Seven isn't heaven when you're losing

Playing five games in seven days, including three on consecutive nights isn't easy on the body.  The team has played admirably in light of their unusual circumstances,  Still, a seven game losing streak is a seven game sling streak and you can't give anyone a free pass in light of such a slump.

This week, instead of handing out keys, guest passes, and locks, here are seven words to summarize each player's week.

Andray Blatche: Extra defenders are headed in his direction.

Earl Boykins: Don't look now, Livingston stole his minutes.

Randy Foye: Without improvement, he might lose minutes too.

Alonzo Gee: Has a PER of 26.7.  Not bad.

Shaun Livingston: Hey look!  We have a point guard.

JaVale McGee: If only he rebounded like he dunks.

Mike Miller: This season's grim reality has set in.

Fabricio Oberto: Scored four points against Orlando on Saturday!

Quinton Ross: Only scored one point the entire week.

James Singleton: Gives the team some much needed toughness.

Al Thornton: Attempted 49 shots during four game span.

Nick Young: Attempted a much more modest 31 shots.

Flip Saunders: 18 more game Flip, 18 more games...

Editor's Note: Bumped. Tried looking for the article but it's not up on their website yet. Look forward to it.

The suspended Washington Wizards guard tells Esquire magazine he wasn't using "longevity thinking" when he took out four guns in what he says was an attempt to play a prank on teammate Javaris Crittenton in December.

AP: Gilbert Arenas says he deserved punishment
I did not take this photograph, nor does this particular picture have anything to do with the Washington Wizards as far as I know. This is just a picture of Wet Willies, a bar/nightlife on Ocean Drive in South Beach, Miami.

I was in Miami for a week. I only saw one (1) celebrity the whole time I was there. Who was it? Why, none other than Mr. Gilbert Arenas. He had a table on the front porch, so anyone walking by could see him. The only camera I had was on my cellphone, so none of the pictures came out well. However, once I upload them, I will post what I got.

He was wearing basketball shorts, high socks, sandals, and a white t-shirt. Very friendly to me, and anyone else who was staring.

I just wanted to let people on the whereabouts of our franchise player. I saw him on Thursday night, a few hours after the Wizards lost to the Hawks, and the same night that rumors surfaced that Agent Zero would become Agent Six.
