Open thread: Regular season game 71

Suffice to say, it's a must win.

Lines are Wizards by 7 and 206 on the over/under.

I'll be here tonight, so if you're up late to watch this West Coast game, join the discussion.

Picks
Wiz, under.

I don't know whether to watch the game or not. I'm in a bad basketball depression right now - depressed over arenas not playing, webber retiring, losing last night. I don't think I can handle a loss right now. Philly and Toronto both won tonight as well.

Picks
Wiz, over

The Sonics pounded the Blazers, which motivated them to pound the Wizards, which will hopefully motivate the Wizards to pound the Sonics.

Geez
Seattle has no idea how to defend a pick and roll.

11-4 early.  Nice, strong start.

This is ridiculous
Collison has 15 rebounds.  Are you serious?

What happened to our rebounding?

Tired legs?
I have no idea. No excuse really. I've never wanted Arenas back more than now. Also, I'm sure everyone knows Philly won - maybe someone can inform the Wiz locker room at halftime.

Durant is going to be really good.
And we are going into the half down 6. Staying up to watch this game is going to be super depressing - I really really need to stop watching.

Sorry I'm late
Who killed Brendan Haywood?

More importantly, what happened to Eddie Jordan's hair?

I mean
What happened to running the offense?  This looks like the offense in the first five games of the season.

Exactly what I was thinking
Hopefully that drive by Jamison serves as the catalyst to get it going again.

The best part about Gilbert's return
Is that it'll mean less Antonio Daniels.  The dude has been killing us in the last couple games.

As has Stevenson.  More Mason/Young, please.

Whaddaya know
Stevenson goes out, we go on a little run.

His minutes really need to be severely cut, and handed to Mason and Young.  Not to say he shouldn't start, but 25 minutes is all he should get every game.

I try
not to pick on AD- because he just simply isn't built to play this many minutes in a season. Not by age or the style he plays...

but his shot has become ATROCIOUSLY MALNOURISHED as the season progressed.

I just want to win. That's it. Win. Win. Win. Win. Win. Win. Win. Win. Win. Is that asking too much???

wow
I'm glad I didn't turn that game off.  Mason really bailed us out.

Wow
Hard to like anything from that game, especially the first three quarters, but at least they closed it out. Last night's shellacking and tonight's performance have me worried. At least Roger Mason came up big.

Report from Seattle
Erica and I are at Bandits bar across the street from the KeyArena, where we just saw the Wiz live (there were three other Wiz fans in our section, Section 210), and we cheered as Roger Mason (who?) and Darius Songaila (?!) bailed us out after a dismal two-and-a-half quarters.

We'll get Erica's take in a second. Here what I saw happen: Nearly three quarters of lousy defense (they let the Sonics tear them up down low) and hand-it-off-hand-it-off all-perimeter offense to nowhere. Antawn and Brendan H. were sloppy with the ball and not getting rebounds.

Jordan obviously leaned into them about pumping up the defense to will energy back into the the team...and will the win. He also, obviously, told them to launch some threes to get back in the game. They answered on both counts. What up  Roger Mason? I counted 4 threes.

And once they roared back on Mason 's shooting and the hyper defense (again Songaila!) and took over in the fourth: Butler and Jamison were able to hold down the fort for the win.

Pretty disheartening (not ready for the playoffs with this lackadaisical play) but they won.

Erica?

I totally concur about the game - it shouldn't have been nearly so close. Lazy playing by the Wiz in the first 3 quarters; sloppy shooting, sluggish defense.

The HOT DOGS, however, were awesome--crisp casings, nice condiment selection, warmed buns. YUM! My salted pretzel with cheese sauce was also delicious. Only one question: How long until the city/state/feds outlaw open trays of relish, tomatoes, and lettuce, which are a) totally unsanitary (which, you know, whatever) and b) really easy to poison? Just askin'. But otherwise, AWESOME game.
