Buying time

It's been an insanely busy day for me, so I apologize for not having the links ready.  There's a ton of stuff out there as well, so I'll try to round them up later tonight.

In the meantime, discuss any or all of these topics in this comments section before I get back.

  1. What would be a fair trade idea that could bring AK-47 to DC?  Remember the trade machine.
  2. If we conceivably could bring AK-47 to DC, is it even worth it?  Consider the cap as well as the style of play.
  3. Can we take anything away from Darius Songaila's play at the EuroBasket?
  4. Caron lost another 7 pounds, according to Michael Lee of the Post.  Good thing, or bad thing?
  5. DeShawn lost 15 pounds (see above link).  Is there any way this could not be a good thing?
  6. Besides BF, where do you get your NBA fix?  What are your favorite non-Wizards blogs, both general NBA and team-specific?  How much do you read blogs as compared to "mainstream media" outlets?
  7. How the hell could I have anything to say about Victor Alexander. Actually, there's an answer to that...I don't.

Discuss.

Let's see
  1. I don't think Utah wouldn't be interested in anything that didn't involve one of the Big 3, which of course means that we'd be talking about Jamison.  Would Kirilenko's defensive prowess make up for the offensive output we'd lose in Jamison?  That's the big question.  The trade I came up with was Jamison and Haywood for Kirilenko, Brewer, and Collins.  I'd love to get Milsap as part of the deal, but that's probably a pipe dream at best.

  2. I'm not sure.  Part of me wants to say yes.  Part of me wants to say no.  Part of me wonders how Andrei and Andray will mesh  At this point, I'd probably lean towards no.

  3. Probably not.

  4. If he got leaner it's a good thing, if he just got thinner than it isn't as good.

  5. If DeShawn decides not to eat when he's shooting over 50% rather than not talking to people.

  6. I heard Gilbertology is pretty good...

  7. Suppressed childhood memories.  Let it out Prada, let it out...

ak
ak would be nice on the wiz, ive been talking about bringing him over to dc for awhile.  Kirilenko + blatche/etan/pecherov could be decent in the east where theres not many centers that can physically dominate, but wed have trouble against those who could.  Wed still get torn apart by pfs but ak would be nice getting up and down the court with gilbert and his defense would help.

Okay
  1. I don't think the Wiz have another parts that Uta would consider although teaming AK-47 with Agent Zero would be an incredible gimmick..imagine Agent Zero slaying the division with AK-47 headline.

  2. Yes, and Yes

  3. That he sucked?

  4. Considering how Caron got pushed around last season..NO

  5. Mrs. 50

  6. Hooplah Nation!

  7. LOL

AK-47
  1. Unlikely due to the high salaries, but it would be sweet.  Realistically, I came up with Jamison and Daniels for AK & Harpring.  In a dream world, it would be Daniels and Etan for AK straight up.

  2. Yes

  3. He cares more about his country than his employer, but thats about it

  4. I dont think it matters either way, i guess it would be better for him to bulk up a bit, but if hes quicker im happy

  5. I could probably lose 15 pounds, that would be a good thing

  6. thebasketballjones.net has a great podcast

  7. I dont even know where your coming from here.  I know Doc Doom mentions Mookie Blaylock on RZA's Bobby Digital album (track 10 i think), so i guess its okay. (great track btw)

You're still a whippersnapper
1 I like AK as a player, but the way the NBA is set up now, you not only have to have good players on your team, but you have to have good contracts too. His isn't. Unless you're one of those teams that doesn't mind paying the tax, you can't really afford to absorb a deal like AK's.

2 Nope, see above.

3 Not sure. He was an efficient scorer who didn't rebound or play defense well against the stronger, quicker 4s in the NBA last season. The reports I've read suggested he was moving around better at Eurobasket, and that's a good sign, but it's hard to envision him turning into a rebounding monster or strong post defender. Another board per game would be nice though.

4 Depends, of course, on what he lost and how he lost it. If he worked out alot and lost fat, then he should be quicker and more explosive. That's a good thing.

5 See above. I don't think weight is the main issue here. I recall Exree Hipp of the Maryland Terrapins coming into his senior season with folks telling him he was a lock for the NBA if only he gained 20 pounds. He spent the summer eating fried chicken and hamburgers, and completely stunk his senior year.  He was never heard from again. The weight itself is much less an issue than what it's made of. If Butler and Stevenson lost fat and kept the same muscle mass (or even added some), then their weight loss is very likely a good thing. If the weight they lost was muscle mass, then that's probably not going to help them.

6 I read blogs a lot, including TrueHoop, FreeDarko, Wizznutzz, the Post's Wizards Insider, and the Bog. I also visit mainstream outlets like SI, ESPN Page 2 and ESPN (although it's a lot less fun there since they made most of the content accessible only by subscription). I'd have to say I am coming to prefer the blogs. As I've said before, you and Jake do a great job here.

7 Pasta.

ditto vanilla
1/2. I think AK is a fine player, but this team is going to need the cap space to sign Gil to a max deal next summer, and they don't want to have all their money put into three players for the long term.  Depending on the how the season goes, I see us either sticking with our current big 3 all year, then having a decision next summer regarding Jamison-in-his-twilight-years vs cap space or else making a major splash with a mid-year Jamison trade to a team that wants that cap space (I'm thinking on the scale of Jermaine O'Neil here).

We also need to keep in mind that this team has prospects at the 4 (OPec, Andray) and nothing at the 5.  If Andray makes strides this year, the team probably moves Jamison and lets Andray become the starter.  We take on a 4 with a huge long-term deal, that basically turns Andray into trade bait.

3. meh.

4/5. I think the lost weight for both players is a good thing, but then again I'm a wizards fan, so I know nothing about defense ;-)

  1. I read truehoop rumors, dimemag, Wiz Insider, and nba.com.  Go blogosphere go.  (I'm biased, though, I'm studying bloggers for my dissertation.)

  2.  Er, um, who?

Really?
"I'm biased, though, I'm studying bloggers for my dissertation"

Now I know why you're here...ulterior motive, I see.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Yep
Political bloggers, specifically.  I plug the site all the time, though.  People will ask me if I'm a blogger myself and I'll say "no.  Well, um, I'm a pretty regular diarist on one site.  Bulletsforever.com. [cue confused look from liberal politico who's wondering if I'm a weird gun nut or something] It's a discussion site for fans of the Washington Wizards."

Their reactions vary, but are always pretty amusing if you ask me.

I apologize in advance
I've probably thrown the whole study out of whack.
