Open Thread: One solution to fixing the road woes

I'm traveling back from New York today and have only gotten through one half of the Memphis game, so apologies if this is brief.  However, in light of the 0-23 road record, I figure I'd throw this...

Washington Wizards vs. Memphis Grizzlies: Regular Season Game 46 Open Thread

Coming back from last night's heartbreaker is going to be tough.  The Grizzlies have won four of their last five and are 13-7 at home on the year.  They're coming off a comeback win on the road...

"Jimmy" Wall Profile

Some of this made me cringe, and then I just reminded myself he's a kid. At 20 he sounds like me at 16, but that's ok. He loves junk food, check. He spends most of his time playing video games, check. He is constantly nursing sore legs and knees (cringe!!) and he got a puppy. Oh yeah, and he'll be old enough to drink in a year. Godspeed, Jimmy. We are all rooting for you to do the right thing and become a true professional. I didn't see much evidence of being a gym rat, but hopefully he is doing what it takes to be a star.

Wizards lose double-overtime heartbreaker to Thunder, fall to 0-22 on the road

I have to watch the whole thing, but man, that sucked.  That sixth foul on Trevor Booker was a huge momentum swing.  Oh well.  Flip has to use this as a positive to not shake the team's...

Washington Wizards at Oklahoma City Thunder: Regular Season Game 45 Open Thread

LET'S GET THAT ROAD WIN ALREADY SHEESH. I'm in transit to New York for the weekend, so I will probably catch this one on delay.  Thabo Sefolosha is out for the Thunder, so James Harden will start...

The Flip Side: Establishing the Head Coach's Area of Responsibility

A head coach on a rebuilding team is usually under the gun, but isolating the real issues deserving attention is tough without establishing a standard for evaluation. Will this be that report card for Flip Saunders...maybe?

Is Nick Young good enough to be a starting shooting guard on a good team?

Is Nick Young good enough to be a starting-quality shooting guard in the NBA? Here's an argument that the answer is yes.

John Wall on ballot for Skills Challenge

The eight players on the ballot: Wall, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Tony Parker, Stephen Curry, Tyreke Evans, Baron Davis and ... Derek Fisher, for some reason. Fans can vote on which four will be the ones competing.

Lewis has already been traded once this season. Could it happen again? That's the word we're getting from several GMs. The Wizards are in rebuilding mode and Lewis' presence hasn't exactly turned the team around. The Wizards are 6-12 since the trade and Lewis continues to struggle shooting the ball. Lewis still has a full $21 million due to him next season and has a partially guaranteed contract for 2012-13 that will pay him a minimum of $10 million, so he's not cheap. But for a team a little closer to competing in the playoffs, he may be worth the risk -- at least, that's what the Wizards are hoping.

Chad Ford. This feels like it's being floated by the Wizards as an attempt to get anyone to take him, to be honest, but here it is.

Armstrong has appeared in 34 games this season, averaging 2.1 points in 11.4 minutes per game. He has played a grand total of seven minutes in the last three, and fails to understand why coach Flip Saunders refuses to look his way. "It doesn't make sense to me," he said. "I work hard, I'm positive, I'm dedicated. What do I have to do?"

Hilton Armstrong to Jeff Pearlman, in a bit of an odd story about benchwarmers in the NBA. (A little cliche, I know). I mentioned this in a previous thread, but Armstrong was bewildered about his playing time going away after a recent home game, and said something about it to me and another reporter. I lost the audio, but I think he said that the Wizards told him they wanted to evaluate Kevin Seraphin, which he understood, but still didn't like because he thought he was playing well. Anyway, since I know there are a lot of "play the youngsters" viewpoints out there, I just wanted to throw this out there as an example that it does happen on this team, sometimes.
