The Hawks are better than we thought they were

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

I think that some of us have severely underestimated the Hawks. Playoff Hawks are scrappy and play good defense. Milsap is a matchup nightmare for Jason Smith. Markieff Morris can't stay out of foul trouble after game 1. I would like Scott Brooks to put Kelly Oubre on Paul Millsap for spurts. Oubre has length and the lateral quickness to stay with him.

Dennis Schroder is a lot better than he is given credit for. The Hawks brass thought so much of him, they traded Jeff Teague to make Schroder the starter. He is quick and has nice touch around the rim with an improving jump shot.

The key to the rest of the series will be defense and 3 point shooting. Morris, Oubre and John Wall are the Wizards' best individual defenders. Wall and Oubre need to stay in front of their man instead of gambling for steals so much. Morris needs to find a way to guard Millsap without fouling. Oubre, Otto Porter, and Bojan Bogdanovic need to start hitting their threes more efficiently.

I have been a die-hard Wizards fan who remembers the dark days of watching Chris Webber being traded for old Mitch Richmond. I watched Rip Hamilton get traded for old Stackhouse. I remember when Ike Austin and Mufasa Shakur were on the roster. I have been waiting and hoping for a Wizards team as talented as this one. I truly think they are better than every team but, the Cavaliers, Warriors, Spurs, Rockets and maybe the Utah Jazz.

Hopefully, the Wiz can prove me right and win this series.
