Should the Wizards sign and trade Otto to clear cap space?

I've been trying to wrap my mind around how the Bogdanovic deal fits into the long term plan for the team. Everyone knows that the Wizards would be in luxury tax trouble by re-signing Otto, let alone getting proper return for trading our 1st by keeping Bogie long term.

But what if the plan is to not sign either Otto or Bogie to long term deals?

What if the trade deadline move was the first domino in a series of moves to become FA players again in the near future?

With Otto's recent slip in play, the team has to be concerned about handing Otto a max deal. But there are teams out there, like the Nets, just waiting to pounce. Maybe the Wiz should let them have Porter. But much like the Warriors did with Barnes and Bogut, the Wizards should tag Gortat on with Porter to clear future cap space.

Sign and trade Otto Porter, Marcin Gortat for Brook Lopez, KJ McDaniels

Lopez and McDaniels are on expiring deals. If the team then decides to let Bogdanovic play out the season on his QO rather than re-signing him, we can go into summer 2018 with a tremendous amount of cap space.

Wall, Beal, Bogdanovic (maybe KO starts), Morris, Lopez with a bench unit of Sato, McDaniels, Oubre, Smith, Mahimi should still be very competitive and a top team in the conference. The Lopez upgrade (especially his 3 ball) should balance the drop off from losing Porter. Plus it'll open up clearer roles for Oubre and Bogdanovic and KJ is a more natural backup for Beal.

In summer 2018, we should have Wall, Beal, Morris, Mahimi, Sato, Oubre, McCullough and our 2018 1st under contract for around $75 million. But we should have just about enough to offer a max deal to Cousins or Paul George.

I'm assuming continued strong play from Jason Smith will lead him to opt out. We could also do things like draft a stash player if we need a little more wiggle room. Morris, Mahimi, Sato, and Oubre should all be pretty movable pieces if we can orchestrate a major coup to bring in two max players.

So the point is that maybe Bogdanovic was brought in to clear salary and provide a temporary replacement that allows us to move on from Porter. Maybe the prudent thing would be to let our players go rather than locking them up long term
