The Washington Wizards will be sending 18 players to Richmond as part of their training camp for the 2016-17 season.
The roster doesn’t include any new additions from what has already been reported earlier in the summer. 12 of the 18 players at camp already have guaranteed deals for this season (John Wall, Bradley Beal, Otto Porter, Markieff Morris, Marcin Gortat, Ian Mahinmi, Andrew Nicholson, Kelly Oubre, Tomas Satoransky, Trey Burke, Marcus Thornton, and Jason Smith). The other six players will be fighting to earn one of up to three spots left on the roster.
Of the six, Jarell Eddie probably has the best shot at securing a roster spot. He played with the team last season and had a strong showing in Las Vegas with the Summer League team.
There should be some very interesting competition for whatever spots are left on the roster. Danuel House, Daniel Ochefu, and Sheldon McClellan are interesting rookies who showed flashes during Summer League and earned partially guaranteed contracts for their efforts. On the flipside, Casper Ware and Johnny O’Bryant both have NBA experience which could prove to be valuable, especially if someone were to get hurt during the preseason.
It’s also worth noting NBA teams are allowed to have up to 20 players during the preseason, so there’s still a chance they could add another player or two to the mix before it’s all said and done.
