Thank You

I'm from Nashville, TN, and started following the Wizards in 2010. I chose to root for them because I needed a team to root for and they had the shortest player in the NBA on their team, Earl Boykins. The first draft I watched was the 2011 draft where the Wizards picked Jan Vesely sixth overall, and he immediately became my favorite player. It was my first real year of fandom, and Jan Vesely was becoming part the team the same time I was. Every day I would either watch the game, hoping for Jan to get in, and whenever he did, I kept my eyes on him. Any night I couldn't see a game I would get home, run to the computer, and check the box score. First, for Jan's stats. Second, for the score of the game. Jan's 8-8 game with 16 points was a wonderful day. Throughout the past few years, my fandom grew greatly, with Jan and with the team.

Not gunna lie, watching this team play was absolutely miserable for me. I'm the type of guy who can't do Fantasy football because I get too into it and too stressed out about it, and with the Wizards, it's 10X that. Basketball is my favorite sport and the Wiz soon became my favorite team over the Titans and Predators, and it hurt. I watched as we had one of the worst drafts of all time, watched Blatche and McGee do what Blatche and McGee do, watched us getting rid of Blatche, McGee and Young and then hearing them trash the organization. I saw Kawhi Leonard succeed. I saw Draymond Green succeed. I saw Blatche succeed in Brooklyn. I saw us draft Satorasnky over Draymond and haven't seen Sato play to date. I saw Janero Pargo play some of the worst basketball I have ever seen. I saw John Wall get hurt. That just took a lot out of me. I listened to Grizzly, Heat, and Bulls fans give me so much crap. I listened how John Wall was overrated and we had one of the worst franchises in the NBA. Until this year, me (and most others) being a Wizards fan was just not fun. It just seemed like this franchise didn't have a plan.

To cope with all of this, I tried to read about the Wizards as much as possible, trying to find some optimism. I would go on espn and not find any articles about them. The only articles I would find would be about their failures.

Then, in 2012, I found this blog. It was doing their "Better know a free agent" series and I was immediately hooked. I visited it everyday and it became my go to for Wizards news. I not only became a much more knowledgeable Wizards fan, but also a much more knowledgeable NBA fan in general. This website gave me reason for hope, that John Wall and Bradley Beal would be a promising, young backcourt in the future. I watched as the WIz traded for Nene, and while everyone was trashing us that we took on that massive contract, people at Bullets forever had reason for hope. And that gave me hope. And then I saw Nene do something to this team I had never seen before. We became a team. We became a unit. We weren't a bunch of talented knuckleheads, we were a team. The team just flowed so much better when Nene was in the game. I think trading for Nene was one of the most important moves for the Wizards since I've became a fan, but that's off topic.

Then, 2013-14 came, and I watched my favorite sports season to date. I saw John Wall become an allstar. I saw Trevor Ariza go HAM all season. I saw Beal become clutch. I saw us make the playoffs. I saw everybody doubting us in the playoffs. I saw us win in Chicago, then I saw game two, the most exciting game of Wizards basketball I have ever seen. Holy shit that was awesome. Then, I saw Andre Miller almost singlehandedly pull us out of losing in two playoff games against the bulls. I saw Nene punch Jimmy Butler. I saw us handle the bulls without nene. I saw us win a playoff series, and I loved it. And I saw it all with you guys. It's been a journey, and it's far from over, but I just wanted to thank this website, because it has been the best thing that has happened to my Wizards fandom since we drafted Jan in 2011. Peace
