Is this the year Wall gets credit for his defense?

The Washington Wizards have been a top 10 defense for the last 2 years. 2 years ago, Emeka Okafor received a lot of credit for our defense being top 10. Last year, Trevor Ariza received credit for our defensive ranking. With both players gone John Wall should get the credit he deserves as the team's defensive leader next season.

In my opinion, John Wall is the best defensive point guard in the NBA. Does he have his breakdowns sometimes? Sure, but so does every player at the league's most talented position. Most fans on this site have watched just about every single Wizards game so they have seen John Wall's breakdowns more often than other point guards. But if you were to watch every single game of other point guards around the league you would see a lot more break downs. This is why Wizards fans are harsher on John Wall's defense than fans of other teams.

In my opinion, Joakim Noah was first noticed as a defensive player of the year candidate when he was on a Friday night ESPN game. When the announcers say things like, "look how well this guy plays defense" while highlighting your defense on a nationally televised game it helps build momentum to win those type of awards. It will be noticed more than Wall pitching a shut out against the Miami Heat by not allowing either Chalmers or Cole to score in a mid March CSN game. If that game against the Heat or any other Wizards game was nationally televised more people would get to see how well John Wall plays defense.

If the Washington Wizards have a top 10 defense AGAIN next season, I believe it is time to finally give Wall his due. Don't convince yourself that Nene is the defensive leader despite playing 50 games or that Randy Wittman's schemes are what make our defense nice (though that does help). John Wall is the best defender on the Washington Wizards next season and the best defensive PG in the league. With more national TV games more people will get to see blocks like this or steals like this. Some of Wall's defensive plays are so nice that he might be able to get some Defensvie Player of the Year hype on national TV. Next year I think Wall will lead the league in steals and blocks by a guard to get some serious DPOY consideration.
