It's time to play Completely Hypothetical Situations With Zero Chance Of Actually Ever Happening, Ever!" I am your host, AverageBro!!!
All jokes (and catchy post title aside[1] it now seems that Kevin Durant is at least acknowledging the possibility of coming home. Yesterday's comments seemed unscripted and genuine. Think about it, Durant could have very easily said "Not a chance. I love OKC and want to retire there." That would have effectively ended the (non)story. But he didn't. He left the door wide open. If I'm a Thunder fan, I'm probably a little pissed right now. But I'm not a Thunder fan, so yeah, that was awesome.
Thus, #KD2DC is officially a "thing" right now, and probably will be for the next two seasons. A lot can obviously change between now and then, and as fans, very little of that is within our control. What we can control is how much we let Mr. Durant know that we'd love to have him back home, bringing a title to the DMV.
Here's what I think fans can do to help the #KD2DC movement: Make his homecoming a real homecoming.
Whenever the Thunder visit DC this season, fans need to put the full court press on. Flood his timeline with "Welcome home, KD! Please stay!" tweets. At the arena, fans need to cheer equally hard for the Wizards and Durant every time he scores a basket. Don't say anything (okay, boo) for any other Thunder player. And of course, the "Come home KD {clap}{clap}..{clap}{clap}{clap}" chants at the end of the inevitable Wizards blowout win as he's sitting on the bench. Let this guy know how crazy this town's fans would be to have him here.
But those are just my ideas, what are yours?
1] Yes, that was a completely misleading title to reel you in. Discuss that hypothetical in the comment section though. Do I think Ted would rename them the Bullets if that was KD's sole stipulation to sign here? No, I don't.
