I know it sounds wack, but there are a whole lotta folks who believe that it only matters what team drafts a player is the difference between that player succeeding or failing to develop in the NBA.
If Adam Morrison could have gone to San Antonio he would have been the next Larry Bird. What if Kwame Brown had gone to a team that had Patrick Ewing as his mentor, would he have been the next Kevin Garnett? And now the latest from our fine Washington Wizards fan base. Jan Vesely did not fail because he is not a talented basketball player. No no no. Jan Vesely failed because the Washington Wizards professional coaching staff could not develop him.
But theres more.... Kawhi Leonard is only this good because he had the good Lord's fortune to be drafted onto the San Antonio Spurs. I guess if he had been drafted by the Wizards he would have been traded to Denver last year.
CAN I GO THROW UP NOW?
Talent is talent. A player has it or he does not. How the heck did Kevin Garnett get developed by Flip Saunders? Shouldn't he have turned out like Kwame Brown?
If you have talent to play in the NBA then you will make it at this level. I might be a little off but didn't Flip Saunders AND Randy Wittman (assistant coach) have both Kevin Garnett AND Jan Vesely on their Minnesota and Washington teams? Flip and Randy must have been alot better at devloping players in the 90's than they were in the 2000's. They did an absolutely great job developing Kevin Garnett into the monster player he was. They absolutely sucked at developing Jan Vesely. I wonder what happened. Different technic maybe?
Or maybe, just maybe Kevin Garnett is a BASKETBALL PLAYER who is extremely athletic, and Jan Vesely is an extremely ATHLETIC person "trying" to play basketball.
