I am not huge into gaining respect. Sports usually is the ultimate equalizer. Opinions and respect matter little. You either win or you don't.
It seems curious that the Wizards are gaining little respect around the nation.
It starts with those predicting series. Against the Bulls, 15 of the 16 ESPN's so-called experts picked Chicago. Against Indiana, 12 of those 16 picked the Pacers.
Vegas had the Pacers as 4.5 points favorite in game 1. Huh? If I was in Vegas, I would have bet the farm the Wizards covered that spread. In Game 2, the Pacers are 4 points favorites. I understand this line. I feel this is probably the Pacers best shot to win a game. If they lose, this could be a sweep. Vegas has adjusted the chances of the Wizards winning the East to 6-1 odds over Indiana's 10-1. Inexplicably, the Nets have better odds.
There have been a few supporters. Bill Simmons picked the Wizards to go the ECFinals at the start of the playoffs. Charles Barkley picked them over the Bulls and now the Pacers. Kenny Smith has been VERY reluctant to pick the Wizards. He finally stated after Game 1 "My eyes tell me the Wizards are better."
I feel the Wizards are playing the best right now. That does not mean they will win the title. They will need a monumental effort to beat the Heat and whoever comes out of the West. I guess the Wizards will just have to take their respect.
