While many of us enjoyed this spring's postseason run. The ups and downs that we as DC basketball fans have rarely ever gotten to experience brought a lot of excitement. It showed us that we have two young guards that will be formidable opponents for the rest of the league for years to come.....but at what cost? I don't think we make the playoffs without Marcin Gortat and we'd struggle to beat the bulls in rd 1 if we somehow did make it. With that said the NBA Draft Lottery is tomorrow. An event that as Bullets fans we are all too familiar with. The difference with this draft lottery as opposed to all of those since maybe 2007, i'd even venture to say 2003, or 1996 is that the players available in this draft are big time. We're talking maybe 10 guys with the potential to make at least 1 all star game. That is unheard of really yet for the first time in several years we don't have a seat at the table. At the beginning of the season I was all about tanking. I felt that we needed one more elite piece and I knew that the 2014 draft would be deep. I could see the value in Wall and Beal having playoff experience, esp after we gave wall the max deal, but still felt that without that 3rd big time guy we weren't going to make much noise in the future. With that said this playoff run has showed me that we're much closer than I thought. I know the East will probably never be this bad again as some of the big market teams like Boston and Philly won't be tanking again and the Knicks probably won't unintentionally tank and trade their first round pick in the future. However we gave the 2nd best team in the East (until the pacers unseat the heat they're still #2) a run for their money this playoffs and you could argue we were a couple of rough starts from beating them. This pacer team will probably still be top 2 or 3 for the next few years. With all of this said. Are we going to regret not having a seat at the nba draft lottery table this year?
