The more I think about it, the more I believe it would be genius to start Drew Gooden against the Pacers (if we play them).
When we were blown out the first two games by Indiana, it was because Roy Hibbert was allowed to play his role as a 7'2 enforcer. Nene allows Hibbert to play a normal role. However, when we beat them it was with Drew Gooden. Have Drew Gooden shoot mid range jumpers or even 3's at the the top of the key to pull Hibbert away from the paint. All of a sudden Wall doesn't have to worry about a 7'2 beast stopping him when he blows by his man.
It is kind of weird, but starting Nene is huge against Chicago while starting Gooden is bad. But starting Gooden instead of Nene against Indiana could render Roy Hibbert useless. A sub .500 Hawks team has a chance against the Pacers because of this strategy. Pull Hibbert out of the paint and his entire "verticality" defense doesn't work. He isn't a great offensive player so his value is extremely diminished by starting Drew Gooden. Have Ariza on Paul George and you shut down their 2 all stars.
I know it is crazy, but maybe Aaron Rodgers was right along. #midrange #championship
