Wizards vs. Celtics preview: Let's clinch this already

Jared Wickerham

The Wizards again have the chance to clinch a playoff spot when they host the Boston Celtics at the Verizon Center.

Let's not talk about what happened in Charlotte on Monday. That's in the past, and this team needs to have its sites set on the future. As the Wizards have been saying all year, you've got to have amnesia in this league.

The Celtics are in town tonight, and they are ... pretty terrible. This game should be a wire-to-wire to win for the Wizards, and the Wizards should finally have that little "x" next to their name in the Eastern Conference standings signifying their clinched playoff berth. Of course, there are no guarantees with this team.

As evidence: let's not talk about what happened the last time the Celtics came to town, that embarrassing and energy-lacking loss to a skeleton crew. That's in the past, and this team needs to have its sites set on the future. As the Wizards have been saying all year, you've got to have amnesia in this league. Anyone else feeling a little deja-vu?

Where and when? The game tips off at 7 p.m. at the Verizon Center.

Are they good? Nope. Not at all. They're near the bottom of the East, and they're headed to the lottery. A lot of that is health, but it's also a purposeful rebuild. They'll probably be better next year once they've got a high lottery pick and a healthy roster. But for now, nope.

Who's out? Nene's not playing, and Glen Rice Jr. is still hanging out in the D-League. The Celtics will not have Gerald Wallace, Keith Bogans, or Vitor Faverani tonight. They also may not have Avery Bradley, who hurt his ankle against the Bulls on Monday. That should help out the Wizards backcourt a bit.

What are they good at? Well, if Wallace were playing, I'd say "injuring Wizards," but he's not. So basically, they're good at ... not a lot. Though Jeff Green did torch the Wizards last time ... I mean, amnesia, amnesia, amnesia.

What are they bad at? Avoiding injuries. They've had a litany of problems all year, and they're still not healthy. Plus, their offense is generally pretty stagnant. Defensively, they're average, but if Bradley sits, they'll be worse.

Who's going to win? 'Zards, baby. Gotta be the 'Zards.

Where did I put my keys? Damn this amnesia.
