Re-evaluating the Gortat trade now

They just released the NBA draft order and our 1st round pick is #18, which is obviously going to the Phoenix Suns. Based on the team's current situation, I think you have to agree that the Gortat trade has been a success.

Firstly consider the player involved.Without Gortat who knows where this team would be. He has been a fantastic pick and roll partner for Wall and Beal. He works very well w/ Nene down low. Is he going to get overpaid this summer? Probably. All big men are, especially big men with an offensive skill set.

And with a #18 pick, you know Ernie would have flubbed it. Look at his track record of mid-late Non-top 3 1st round picks: Chris Singleton, Jan Vesely, JaVale, Nick Young, Pecherov, Devin Harris, Jarvis Hayes. None of whom ended up developing into consistent, solid players for this franchise. And as much as people have hyped up with draft class it is still going to be difficult to find value w/ later picks just like in every other draft. Let's be honest, no one is looking at Clint Capela (currently Draft Expresses pick at #18) as a franchise cornerstone, at least not in the near future. And even the Jabaris and Embiids of the world will need time to acclimate to the NBA. This franchise has been on a long path back to relevance and the Gortat trade has been a big part in that
