The Wizards will "likely" retain Drew Gooden for another 10 day contract, which will give him more time to get acclimated to their system, according to Michael Lee of the Washington Post. This was later confirmed by J Michael of CSN Washington.
After this 10-day contract expires, the Wizards will either have to re-sign him for the rest of the regular season at the veteran's minimum or let him go and potentially use the open roster spot elsewhere.
So far in three games, the veteran power forward has averaged four points and 3.3 rebounds a game. He scored all of his points in yesterday's win over the Utah Jazz and played an important role in helping build some momentum in the second quarter.
Unless Gooden gets injured over the next 10 days, I expect that he will be with us for the rest of the season and the playoffs. And hopefully he'll provide more performances like what we saw against the Jazz until Nene returns.
