I believe that I am like most NBA fans in that I hate flopping. It has taken over games making them very hard to watch. I understand that every team flops (Webby sticking out his leg on his threes to get four-point-plays) and that it will probably never be taken completely out of the game. It seems like players have to flop and fall to the ground to get a charge called and if a player tries stand his ground while a post player tries to bull through him with his shoulder, the defender is more likely to get the foul called; but that isn't what this post is about.
STOP CALLING FLOPPING "SELLING A FOUL"
That is like calling a lie "an intentional misrepresentation of the truth" Call a lie a lie and a flop a flop. If commentators start using that ugly word for it, maybe it will provide a disincentive for players to be seen as floppers. Imagine if commentators on TNT and ESPN stopped praising Chris Paul and James Harden for being really good at selling fouls committed against them and said that they were floppers?
I hate to see someone get legitimately fouled and fling their hands up and hurl themselves to the ground like they were just hit by a car and then to hear the commentator say, "he did a good job of selling that foul." If that is what it takes to get a foul called, then the refs need to be replaced. Ok, I'm done.
