All of the talk surrounding Ariza and the trade deadline has been heavily debated, but I'm more interested in who we might be able to attract in the offseason. There are a ton of attractive assets becoming free agents this year, and this team is (hopefully) finally on the rise as an annual playoff team. If we make the playoffs in the 3-5 seed range, and either win a first round series or at least give someone hell in a hard fought seven games there will be more shatter about us during free agency than in quite a while. Who do you guys think we could realistically attract to join the Zards? Thought I'd throw a names out there that might just be in meetings with us at some point in the offseason.
Zach Randolph is a guy that's been talked about a lot as someone who isn't exactly in Memphis' long term plans right now. That team has been structured around Conley and Marc Gasol, and Randolph is one of the last truly tough as nails big men in the NBA who gives you a great defender in the paint, even he jumps about as high as Nene. Letting Gortat walk and acquiring him would make me giddy.
Nate Robinson has been one of the NBA's most famous journeymen in the league, and I've sung his praises time and time again on these threads. I think retaining Temple and signing Lil Nate to a one or two year deal would give us a great two pronged PG duo to help keep us in games when Wall is out. Darren Collison also intrigues me at this position.
Jordan Hill has had trouble staying healthy for a while, but he's a great rebounding big man and gives you a ton of energy off the bench. Who knows who the Lakers will be keeping around for the long haul. Jodie Meeks is another guy I think should be on our radar as a backup up SG.
Any thoughts? Again, I'm just spitballing here. Who do you guys like? Who do you guys think we could realistically get?
