It took em a couple years and a handful of near misses but they finally did it... the Wizards have a winning record for the first time in 4 years. I'm sure the team has been rallying around this for a while and might be searching for a new (realistic) goal to keep their eye on. I think they need to make that goal 46 wins for this season, which translates to just over a 55% winning percentage. That would give them one more win than any of the Gilbert teams (45 / 54.9%) and their best record since the championship run in the 70s.
This is a number I have kind of obsessed with for a little while now. To tell you the truth I am surprised that others havent picked up on it. Some other mildly interesting notes regarding the number/record...
- The gap between 45+ wins seasons is now at 33 years and is far and away the longest streak in the league.
- The next closest streak belongs to Philly which is currently at 11 years.
- Washington and Philadelphia are the only teams to have not posted a final winning percentage above 55% in the last 10 years. (Charlotte as well but they have only been around for 7 years).
