Just watched the EG press conference on Andre Miller acquisition. He looks really happy to have gotten this deal done. Andre Miller will probably be an upgrade, just like Marcin Gortat was an upgrade. Given how weak the Leastern Division is, I think we have a good shot of landing somewhere in the 3-6 spot. Mission accomplished, playoffs achieved, 3 year contract extension in place?
The big question is whether EG can improve his decision making compared to the past? The recent mistakes were: 1) offering Maynor a contract (impact: minimal because the alternatives weren't that good and the cost / commitment was low). 2) Vesely pick (impact: moderate not high because it led to Beal pick and that has worked out and you can't win every pick because its very difficult to predict success-except if you're Sam Presti). 3) Blatche extension (impact: high because it was very expensive, should have been avoided given player's past behavior, so-so basketball IQ, inability to bang inside, and laziness and it used up our amnesty provision).
The Wizards pride themselves with being "in analytics" and a professional locker room. Are these signs that EG is improving? Can he become a better draft picker (assume late 1st round picks for the 2015 and 2016 drafts)? Who will we select in second round in 2014? Finally, can we get better in both the coaching department and in player development department?
If these are yes or probably, it would be good to retain him, if not then we will stagnate by retaining him. Finally, Ted has to ask, how good is EG compared to someone else (what are the other options)? Opinions?
