The Wizards have no depth at all. The starters are a quality line up that can compete with most starting 5's. With no major moves coming up, this off season is crucial in getting talent and positioning this team to be among the other top teams in the conference for years to come.
For starters, hire a new general manager. I don't know who's available but I have brought up the idea of Steve Kerr which i still like (but he may still enjoy commentating). I like the idea of targeting guys from OKC, Boston and the Spurs management teams.
Then hire a new coach, who ever that may be... feel free to make suggestions (Lionel Hollins, Geroge Karl etc). I would love to find the next Jeff Hornacek, a coach who makes their team overachieve. Once that is done, my opinion would be to let all the expirings on the bench go and re sign Gortat and Ariza (reasonably similar contracts).
The free agent pool is weak but i think there is enough talent to assemble a good bench. These are the unrestricted free agents who I think we should target. These guys are all relatively young and have some good years left to be productive. (Some of these free agents are fairly costly but keep in mind we may not be able to keep Ariza).
If we let go of all the expirings on the bench, we should have the ability to go after some quality players and expand the rotation lessening the chance of injuries. I think a solid bench can be assembled from these group of guys
Who should we go for?
For how much and how long?
