While I think Wittman has done an admirable job this year, I have not hidden my displeasure with how he uses certain players. Recently, I have been beyond frustrated with how Beal has been used.
Now, I understand the need to develop him into a play maker off the dribble. It would give him a larger repertoire at his disclosure and take some play making pressure off of Wall. That being said I believe they are taking away from his strengths a little bit.
In particular the one thing that has left me wordless is the lack of running Beal around on off ball screens. Beal showed last year and early this year his effectiveness in shooting open threes off of screens. The more games I watch the more amazed I get on the lack of open threes he gets.
Yes, he does get threes in transition and some off the dribble but not what I've been accustomed to seeing. It baffles me that there seems to be little to known off ball movement for Beal meant to get him open.
You can continue to develop him as a play maker while still plays for him to curl around threes. Good coaches play to players strengths. They develop the players but at the same time they accentuate what they do well. Wittman doesn’t seem to be doing that well with Beal.
Beal has been doing very well in my opinion, some shots haven’t been falling but recently he’s attacking more. But in my opinion by not using Beal at least at times in a Rip like role Wittman is taking away from his game.
Before his game was too one dimensional (according to the critics) but know his game seems to one dimensional in the screen and roll.
Just venting some frustration on the way one of our star players is being used (the overuse of posts up is another day)
