Does anyone know if the Wiz actually have a team therapist? If not, Ted should definitely look into hiring one. Ves and Seraphin definitely seem like they could use one. Both players performance seem to be directly correlated to what kind of self- confidence either player has on a given night. When Jan is playing with confidence you can see it an his quicker decision making and more assertive play. Same goes with Kevin. Kevin seems to be a boom or bust player when it comes to the need to hit his first couple shots to get his confidence going. Generally when he doesn't hit his first couple shots I noticed his overall play just gets worse. He will not try on defense and commit a lot of fouls very quickly because he is frustrated. We saw what he can do last night and a good portion of last season when he has confidence.
Metta World Peace admitted after the last time the Lakers one a championship that he was seeing a therapist and credited her for his success as of late. Many NCAA basketball athletes have seen a sports psychologist prior to playing in the Final Four and it helped them. Sports psychologists can help plays like Kevin and Jan learn how to cope with the pressures of playing in the NBA and give them strategies the combat the self-doubt that seems to plague both players.
Maybe I am biased in this thinking being that I will be graduating with a social work degree in May and know how important mental health is to performance in anything. I would love to hear the BF community's thoughts regarding this topic
