Now that the Kings
have inked Carl Landry
to a lengthy, fairly large deal, have Jason Thompson
as their starting 4 and under contract for at least 3 more years, plus Chuck Hayes
and Cousins, I don't see where they have any need or fit for Patterson anymore. Carl Landry and Thompson will get almost ALL of the power forward minutes, and obviously they will be doing everything in their power to make the Cousins experiment work. Patterson just has no place on their roster. However, there is a pretty glaring need for them. That need is at the 3 where right now all they have is Travis Outlaw
who is basically on his last legs in the league. And we just so happen to have an expendable 3 while also having a need for a pick and pop big.
My Proposal: Trevor Ariza
($7.7 mil)+ $1.8 mil trade exception for Patterson ($3.1 mil) + Travis Outlaw ($3 mil). The $$ works, and the fit works great for both teams. Ariza instantly slides in as their starting 3 and can set a veteran tone that they desperately need. Not to mention the deal saves them $3 mil next year on Outlaws contract. Their starting 5 would probably be pretty solid with him: Greives, McLemore, Ariza, Thompson, Cousins. With Landry, Isiah Thomas, Jimmer, Thorton off the bench. Not bad. As for us, Patterson becomes our 3rd BIG who would log plenty of minutes and fits the pick and pop mold we have been looking for. He could start in a pinch when Nene inevitably is hurt and he has already played with Wall at UK. The whole thing makes too much sense. Outlaw becomes a roster filler that we would owe $3mil to next year but I would be fine with that. Starting 5 to begin the year: Wall, Beal, Webster, Nene, Oak... with Otto, Patterson, Maynor, Seraphin off the bench. I love that roster. What do you guys think? I would throw in a second rounder if needed.
