The Washington Wizards have announced their 2013 NBA Summer League roster, or at least the players that make it as far as their customary pre-event mini-camp. (At least one usually drops out). Here it is:
- Devin Booker, F, Clemson (R)
- Josh Boone, C, Iowa Energy
- Kevin Dillard, G, Dayton (R)
- Sundiata Gaines, G, Fujian Xunxing
- Frank Hassell, F, Hapoel Holon (Israel)
- Marquez Haynes, G, Art Dragons (Germany)
- Dennis Horner, F, Springfield Armour (D-League)
- Otto Porter, F, Georgetown (F)
- Glen Rice Jr, G, Rio Grande Valley (R)
- Chris Singleton, F, Wizards
- Ryan Thompson, G, Aalstar (Belgium)
- Jan Vesely, F, Wizards
- Zack Wright, G, Spartak St. Petersburg (Russia)
Noticeably absent: Bradley Beal, who still clearly isn't quite ready to return to game action after suffering that stress injury late last season.
That's an interesting list of players. Singleton and Vesely being there obviously is a reflection of their poor careers thus far. Porter, as it turns out, is going to be the highest draft pick to play out in Las Vegas, since Anthony Bennett is injured and Victor Oladipo is playing in Orlando. We're all excited to see Rice Jr. play, of course, so no surprises there. Otherwise, there's a weird mix of former NBA players (Boone, Gaines), players right on the cusp (Horner), undrafted rookies (Booker, who is Trevor's brother) and random players who were overseas last season.
This being Summer League, chances are someone will drop out and another player will be added. Nevertheless, this is your Summer League roster, for now. You'll get a chance to see them at an open practice Tuesday at 6:30 before they (and I) fly out to Vegas the week after. The first game is on July 13 at 4 p.m. EST.
