I'm as excited about the Wizards starting 5 as the next guy (and the solid depth at small forward), but when you look at the rest of the team things get pretty dicey. Our backup guards, Eric Maynor and Garrett Temple, have abysmal career PER's of 11.0 and 8.6, respectively. Booker is a decent backup PF, but he's pretty much plateaued due to his limited height. Vesely and Singleton both lack the physical presence to play the 4, and don't shoot well enough to play 3. Neither have given anyone reason to believe they will ever contribute to this team. Seraphin showed signs of hope in the past, but majorly regressed last season. During 2012-2013 he contributed 89 points per 100 possessions while allowing 105 points per 100 possessions. Just terrible. What makes the overall lack of bench talent even more disconcerting is the fact that Wall, Nene, and Beal are all coming off injuries.
I realize that the Wiz didn't have the money to sign any big name free agents, but I'm disappointed they haven't done more to fortify the bench. The Dejuan Blair (a definite upgrade over Booker IMO) and Nate-Rob rumors were promising, but those seem to have gone nowhere. Maybe the front office is planning on making a bigger FA splash next year, but I really think we need to focus on having a good 2013-2014 so John Wall doesn't bail after the season (retaining him should be the Zard's #1 priority).
My current suggestion would be to take advantage of our depth at 3 and trade Ariza (and maybe offload Singleton and/or Vesely in the process). There are definitely teams out there that would part with a decent guard or big man in return for the veteran small forward.
Anyways, this is my first post. Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong!
