That summer league performance from Vesely definitely has to open some eyes. I watched the game last night and Vesely was clearly the best player on the court, no doubt about it. What was interesting was just the amount of confidence he played with. There was no hesitation before taking a jumpshot or driving to the rim. And for a 7 footer to be able to pass the way he did, I thought it was just a tremendous performance.
Obviously, one game does not tell you how he will perform in the regular season. But it definitely opened my eyes a bit to what Ernie and others saw in him when he was drafted. I was very confused originally because he did not seem to resemble anything close to an NBA game but this must be what they were seeing: a legitimate 7 footer, with great athleticism who can run, pass and shoot. That's a nightmare matchup.
Here's to a season of improvement from Vesely. I know people are down about Otto's performance but Vesely's performance has been a real development here in summer league. As for Otto, I think he'll be fine, just early jitters and not knowing when to assert himself / when to back off on a new team.
